This is a lot of trouble to fake a Black Series.

I ran across this video tonight. It seems like a lot of trouble to fake having a Black Series. The best / worst quote, '...now that it has the badge, it is a real AMG'. Ummm...no! No, sir...it is not.

Butt ugly wheels, but not a bad kit car.

I think they did a good job for what the owner probably paid for the work. They look like good guys and things like "now it's a real AMG" was probably just for the youtube video.

Wheels were factory european MB wheels that were just painted. Overall a good build I think for the money.

It's all fun and games until a CLA250 pulls next to you at a red light and leaves your matte black "Black Series" in a cloud of dust.

Ya, I am pretty sure thats the Prior Design kit, that hood is an optional piece from their kit. It is similar to my project, however I'm not calling mine a black series plus I have the HP.

JBs C63 PP( wifes car ), Mc Laren Pxx(toy), 2013 Mustang GT 5.0 ( DD ), ML 6.3 ( winter DD )...
Hood is definately a separate piece...I know because I talked to the owner.
As for calling it black series, man its your life, do what EVER your up to.
If your feeling the need to call it that way, then just do it.

Agree. Who cares. Nice work. But can't see the value proposition given that there are <$55K examples out there. Now the SL Black Series kit makes more sense since they're still quite pricey and there were never convertible versions so if you wanted a drop top SL BS look, that would be the way to go.

It all depends...if I had a 55/63 non bs I'd do that kit...I've always loved the bs look and depending on the numbers it might be cheaper by the end of the day.

The only cheap thing would be the car you would end up with.

By doing this, you would not only had spent money un useless mods (every detail of a real BS has a practical, carefully engineered purpose) but you would have depreciated the value of a real 55 or 63, which are great cars on their own right.

If you factor the money you have in a real 55 or 63, plus the money you have in mods, plus the value you loose in the modded car (much harder to sell at market value than a non molested one), then it will be "cheaper" to buy the real deal on the long run.

Even if it has miles on the clock, I'd rather drive a real car. That is why I drive a REAL Mercedes-Benz, not a car that looks like it.

Of course this is my opinion. Somebody else my think different and that's fine too.

Like you said it all depends on the person and factors involved...for me speaking I had found great deals on a 55 and have body shop hookup so doing a project like this wouldn't be pricey... of course I'd rather have the real thing but some can't afford it content with looks and not the performance... but some points you mentioned I agree with.
