I need some input on purchasing a BS

I need opinions from those of you that own a CLK BS. I have been watching these cars for a while now. I drove one a few years ago but really don't remember everything about it. I plan on using it as one of two daily drivers. I currently have swap between my CTS-V and my SL65. The BS would be replacing my SL65. I'm not looking for a track car, I have one of those but just looking for a fun car to drive. The SL65 is fast in a straight line but a big pig in the turns. My question is, am I going to miss the power of the 65 or do you think the fun factor will make me forget that? I am supposed to go look at one on Tuesday. Also, is the transmission better/ faster shifting than the one in my SL65?

thanks..

on a straight line, slap on a Weistec stage1 and you're good to go; shifting wise, make sure you look into the throttle blip upgrade.. besides those, I think it's good to go for ya! and a nice collection you've got, bring them out to Shift S3ctor's event next time!

You cannot go wrong with the. Black Series. I agree, add on Weistec blower and throttle blipping, as I have done, and you will relish every opportunity to get behind the wheel. Even if it is just pick up some milk

CLK-63 Black Series

If your in the So Cal area you should check out the H&G Motorsports Weekend Warrior for sale. It has 75k in upgrades and the finest looking & handling Black you could find. All the areas of needed improvements have been addressed.
Not a track car but a good riding street car that handles. Recent Renntech ECU upgrade just made it even better enhancing their Stage III Engine Package.
This car has all the goodies and the right color. Just displayed at HRE Open House this weekend.

See H&G Weekend Warrior post 7/11/13 for details and photos. The car will be at H&G having their new adjustable control arms installed next week.

PS forget the Supercharger, it doesn't need it believe me.

CLK bs shifts quicker than your SL65 with stock tune but since you have added a TCU tune, then you may want to tune the tcu on the BS as well. AMG`s have a damn strong tranny but upshifts have always been to conservative.

To answer your original question, as the former owner of two SL55's with the Performance Package and a CLK63 BS you won't miss your SL65. The SL65 is too nose heavy to be anything other than a very nice DD whereas the BS is very well suited for everything you desire (DD,Track, and FUN!). My Porsche TT is currently for sale and when it does I'm going to find another BS. IMO, buy a BS and enjoy it!

LOL - ever driven one of these with Weistec's supercharger...you would change your mind real quick...believe me.

How did they get 75K in upgrades? I know Renntech is over priced but I don't see anything near 75K on the car.

We have done countless CLK Black Series around the world, and we have also produced proper drag race, road race, and street car parts for these cars.

All of these customers had a car in mind that can perform a certain way, and in the end, these cars do it great! Let us know how we can assist!

So I went and drove a white one that Ted @ EVS motors had. I loved the way the car looked, as far as driving, I hated the transmission. The shifts were sloppy and the paddles were basically useless. I talked to Weistec and they told me they have a TCU/ Valve body upgrade that would help but he said it would not be as good as the newer C63 BS. I did make a offer on the white car, but need to really make sure this is the car for me. I love the way it rode, like a track car, looks were killer and the sound was great. As far as power, Weistec can help me with that. I drove my SL65 to Houston, you get spoiled with all that torque at the touch of your right foot. Thanks to all of you that have given your input on this. I will let you know what I end up doing..

The crappy transmission shifts are the CLK63 Black Series main weak point. I have driven a couple of them, and that stupid slow transmission is the main gripe I have about the car. The rest of the car is amazing...and I have no idea how Mercedes AMG division allowed such a crappy transmission to go with a car like that.

Steve, one of the best road car setups I have seen! What is the tire setup on this white one? I'm looking to run the same road course setup. PM if you want. Thanks!

Streetking, Just remember the CLK63BS is a great overall car. Its not the fastest or the best handling but the most enjoyable fun car to experience on a regular basis, in my humble opinion. Good luck with the purchase!
