Looking to buy a CLK Black Series
Hey guys, I am new to the forum and looking for some pointers. I am in the market for a black series. I have wanted one since I first saw it at the Portland Auto Show and now I can finally afford one. Seems like you guys know about most of the cars being sold right now. I have been following the BS on eBay and Auto Trader and want to make sure I find one that hasn't been abused. I am looking in the 50k and under price point. Please let me know if there are other deals I should be looking at. Thanks

<$50k & not abused, they not belong in the same sentence... <$55k is already hard to find one with low miles, and <$60k is only possible if you aren't picky with colors; >$60k is where the good choices are at, >$65k gives you the choice of minimal mileage & numbers of ownerships as well as being unmolested, and >$70k you'll have all the above and any color preference is within reach.
If mileage isn't a concer, there is one with over 100k miles that I am very positive that you can score it for <$30k out-the-door. It all depends on what you'll be using the car for, on this cheapest one in the market, it's good for a project-build.

I appreciate the info, when I put 50k I ment 59k and lower, I have seen several In that range and seems like I could get low miles for a good price. Do you or anyone else on here know about the one listed for 39k in FL? I am looking for one to make my DD. I don't mind if it has been modified as along as it with quality parts and tastefully done. What about the one listed for 59k with Downforce? Did anyone find out if it truly is a clean title?

The $39k from FL is the same $30k I'm talking about, turned hands over a dozen times, multiple dealers list it up yet only one (or maybe none) has real possession of the car, the prices are all over the map from mid $20k's to high $30k's; on top of that, the whole history is listed in another thread on the first page of this sub-forum if you've done your homework.
And I know many butts will get hurt when I say this, but sadly the moded one in the market are not tasteful at all, none of them are, many aging amateurs think they know the mods they're doing is an "upgrade" but they're nothing name-brand and some are DIY made in their garage, no different than what kids do to their Acuras back in the days... very sad to see and to say the least.
As for the $59k one, are you talking about the black one with black wheels in Texas? CEL wouldn't turn off but I think it's been brought up multiple time; but if it's not that one, post up a link, and I'm sure one of us can tell you more about it.

Never mind, just saw the thread in the classified section, hmm, I haven't heard back from whom I think the vehicle owner is/was, so if it's sold under consignment then I can not comment on it hahaha

Black wheels BS in Texas was at another dealer in TX (TX auto direct) for months but never sold. Ebay buy it now price was $48k (you can still search completed listings for this info). It's now being offered at another dealer in TX, Expo or something? They claim it needed a lot of work, dumped 10 grand into it and are asking mid to high 50s. IMO those wheels look terrible.

I like black. My e500 is black and love it. If I could get the bs in Florida for around 30k that would be tempting. Plus I wouldn't feel as bad driving daily because it is higher miles. My e500 has 182k and runs great plus I used to be a mechanic so not too concerned with repairs. If I was going to spend 50k plus I would want low miles (under 40k). Jdm911 what do you think about the 6.3 ltr motor as far as reliability? Any of the BS for sale that I should stay away from?

Make sure you get the car inspected from a non-MB third party first (mobile ones that charges way less than $200 to come out), before even putting out $250+ for a PPI by a MB dealership/authorized service center; and for the following inspection, make sure it's going to a MB authorized service center with an in-house body shop, where they can put the car on a chassis/frame bed, and they can also provide further in depth inspection on body&paint. It's good that you were a mechanic, so you should be able to know what to look out for in that criteria, double-check what MB tells ya after their inspection; but for body&paint, best to also have an experienced detailer to come along the final look before writing that check, not only to double-check MB's body&paint inspection, but to inspect the interior as well.
There are a few questionable cars being discussed already in other threads (mostly on the first page) of this sub-forum, and if you don't see the ones you're looking at in any of those threads, PM me and I can tell you what I know or have heard from other prospects/buyers in the market.

Doing a pre- inspection before taking it to MB is a great idea. Plus I'd the car is far from home (with most are) I could call and get mobile inspection before spending money on plane tickets. Let me know if there are others for sale outside of eBay and autorrader.
Thanks again.

The furthest I've had gone was only to a neighboring state, but I can totally relate about budgeting a trip just to reassure the legitimacy of the car.
Another site, and surprisingly where I hunted down the one I've actually bought (which wasn't listed on either eBay or autotrader, was Cars.com

For the most part, no. I did, however, notice this price drop from a car on ebay. I think this is a pretty solid deal if the car is unmolested, etc...

What do you think?

I have been watching this one on eBay. It is listed on autotrader for 55k. I really like it and has simple mods. I have also noticed the one in Cali at Downforce Autosport drop from 62k to 56k on eBay.

Just those problematic ones & ones with shady history are, and if they've not changed hand in due time then most likely they're not going anywhere; the better ones have moved well and fairly quick with the same transaction range since I've got mine back in '13, like the arctic white that this guy bought last year and has already shipped oversea, good cars don't last in the market long and never needed any drop in price.

No but for real though, the prices are high there mainly due to import tax & registration, gray-market cars will still be billed up the ying yang; and if they're anything like Taiwan, the annual vehicle tax is base on engine displacement, that's why you'd see more E92/E90 M3 there than W204 C63.

I don't think I would be scared away by mileage. Mine is a daily driver, just passed 66,000 miles, and feels like it will do another 66K.
The black one on Ebay does look great. Good luck. AS
