New CLK63 BS owner...

I just bought a stock 08 with 11k miles. It's an amazing car. I have been on these message boards since 1999 but just joined this one a couple years ago...mainly for the classifieds section. I have been reading this forum quite a bit trying to educate myself on this car but any tips or must-haves would be appreciated. One thing that I have noticed is that mods for this car are higher than giraffe vagina! I'm a gearhead and most of my experience has been on mustangs. CTSVs and vettes so paying $5k for a tune and intake is insane. But I guess that is what the market commands for these cars. I plan on putting a twin screw on this car at some point but for now I am just going to enjoy it in stock/near stock form and learn as much as I can about these cars. Thanks in advance for any info/tips.

Here's a pic from place I bought it...

Thanks. I have been to their site as well. More silly price points but better than Renntech...not sure what they are smoking down there in Florida.

Beautiful car

For mods to do, I think you have :
- for longevity of your engine : Weistec Air/Oil separator and Pulleys
- for fun but totally necessary : the blip throttle and the TCU improved (faster upshift and downshift)

Thanks for the suggestions. I will certainly look into the first two. As far as the rev-matching Speedshift mod...I just cannot justify spending $2500 for essentially and ECU flash and valve body mod. It's not that I cannot afford it, it's just principle. I'd like to hear how they justify that cost.

I'm on the same boat... but to play devil's advocate, the vendors' justification is probably the fact that there are only a handful of BS's, so they have to charge a higher premium per sale to cover their R&D and initial costs.

ECU tune is not $2500, Eurocharged charges much less and produces the best results.

I think rev match downshift is a must have mod on this car. I have it and absolutely love it. Made a great car even more enjoyable to drive. It really is worth it IMHO. Welcome aboard

Thanks for the replies. I will get the rev-match tune done at some point. I think the first thing I am going to do is change the bushings in the rear end. I will also look into the oil separator posted above.

My CLK63 (non BS) was done directly by Ralf who created this mod. The price was not so expensive

Ralf user name -german32er

I believe he works with Weistec so it's the exact same tune.

Beautiful car how do you like it? What was your previous car if you don't mind me asking.

Welcome and enjoy the car!

I'm with Tex5 on the must do mod list plus bushings all around (next on my list).

You will have to reset your price expectations for mods with this car. Its not American muscle... its refined German muscle! Therefore the price is refined as well. LOL!!!

Took a while for me to come to terms with the costs, however I'm glad I did the mods!

yeah -- i think CooperDB probably is in a better place to purchase than i am -- but yeah - let us know if you decide to sell!

btw -- how do you like those eaton lobed blowers? i had one and i always hated replacing the rotor pack, coupler etc... they wear out more than screw type of course.

ZR1 is a bargain now that they've dropped to mid $60 and I've considered it a couple of times. Very tempting. But my experience with the Z06, the layout of the interior, in particular that claustrophobic seating position and kinda crappy interior and the heavy clutch are a sufficient deterrent.

I like German cars...very well built. But, when you're used to drinking beer, then wine takes a bit to taste good..

I am near Baton Rouge, La.

Putting a McLeod RXT Twin Disc clutch in the ZR1 has the pedal feeling like a Civic!

How can I check to see if this car has a tune already on it? I need to buy a handheld tuner for it? One even exist for these cars?
