CLK63 Black Series to C63 Black Series....should this be done?

I have been considering going from my CLK63 Black Series (which I love), to something newer. Quickly cars have been removed from that list, but recently I considered moving to a C63 Black Series. Who on here has done this, or knows someone who has, and what was the feedback?

What is wild about the CLK63 Black Series is how much it spoils you for driving fun. So trying to find something newer, yet equally satisfying to drive, is extremely difficult.

Right now the only remaining cars on my list are the Audi R8, Porsche 911 GT3, and Mercedes C63 Black Series. Any help, feedback, or recommendations, are appreciated. Thank you.

C63BS is not so far fromCLK63BS. Same engine Gearbox is a little quicker.
C63BS has more ESP mode. On track, I am not sure C63BS will be quicker.

I will not trade your CLK63BS for a C63BS. For a GT3 or GT3RS or a R8 (V10 only) it can be consider IMHO

My choice : keep the CLK63BS

I had the same exact 3 cars on my "next" list. Here are my thoughts on each:

C63BS - Seems too similar in nature to the CLK

GT3 - Doesn't have the same grunt down low. Would it be a nuisance to keep the revs up? Also doesn't have the same presence (Or it's a bro fest with fanboys)

R8V10 - Not raw enough? A bit too comfortable?

Have you also considered the F-Type R RWD? May not in the same league as the other 3, but it's more similar in character as the CLK and you get the nice ZF gearbox. I heard the tires totally change the car (For the better). Not as keen on the lack of exclusivity and resale though.

That is a nice video of a comparison, good find! At the end of the day, its about your experience with the car. If the new features, look, and feel of the C63BS is the experience you are looking for, then go forth and be happy. I personally like the 'simplicity' of the CLKBS, its a modern day muscle car to me (compared to my 1965 Mustang GT). I enjoy the driving experience and not too focused on the features of the radio (although Bluetooth would be a big plus which is a simple mod to do).

We are on the same page. I enjoy simplicity as well. I almost never listen to the radio in my cars, and instead just enjoy the experience of driving. Having not driven a C63 Black Series yet, I have no idea how sharp it is to actually drive. In a perfect world, I would get a 360 Challenge Stradale, but that is WAAAY beyond my affordability. I have been kicking myself for years for not buying one during that brief period when they could be had for under $100k. But that simplicity of driving focus is what is most enjoyable about driving.

LOL! This car attracts a certain type of person. It would be interesting to do a personality test on all of the CLK63 Black Series owners. I would bet 90% of us would all score similar results.

Your impressions of the GT3 and R8 are exactly what I concluded, but they are still great cars overall....just different from the Black Series. The C63 Black Series is my lone variable. I have to go drive one.

I drove the Jaguar F-Type R, and it makes wonderful sounds! The only problem is that I am not a 'Jag guy'. I would feel like I have to be wearing golf pants, and join a country club. LOL!

True! Looking at the R8 (For the price point), I was also looking at the S tronic V8 vs an R tronic 5.2. I drove the R tronic and it was certainly clunky, but it has character and not as bad as people make it out to be. Not sure if DCT is worth giving up over 100hp and the V10. The V8 is just really slow. On the other hand, not sure if the R tronic will have problems with resale down the line.

How about a 997.2 TT? It's clinical and doesn't sound too good, but it's a missile of a car. Also holding value very well.

i went from clk63 BS to audi r8 v8. the clk is special in its own unique way and that would be the car i would keep long term if i had to space/means.

otherwise, i preferred driving the r8 when i had it and found it superior to the CLK is many ways, but not unique or special enough.

Good to hear from another owner that went that route. Manual, R Tronic or S Tronic? Would like to also hear your thoughts on the power difference. I haven't driven the V8 yet, but the acceleration numbers (low 4s 0-60 and high 12s 1/4) and the low torque seems relatively underwhelming.

i had a manual tranny. the power difference was noticeable but delivery was far different.

the CLK never felt planted whereas the R8 i was more comfortable with because of AWD.

the r8 'felt' quick because of the shifting and driver involvement, whereas the CLK was just mash the gas and hold on.

theyre really different cars, but both wonderful for the price tag.

ive since sold my r8 to upgrade into a manual gallardo, but i enjoyed my r8 enough to consider buying a 1st gen manual or s-tronic R8 V10 in the near future.

I had a CLK BS and now "upgraded" to a C63 BS with the track pack. They are quite a bit different even though those that have never had both would argue otherwise. The C63 is simply a newer generation and is noticeable in almost every way. Steering feels more precise. The traction control is more refined. It just feels more planted. It sounds much better. Not sure what they did differently to the exhaust but its a much more aggressive sound. The transmission, while no PDK, its much better. The rev match sounds so much better, full on snaps and crackles when downshifting. The media is leaps better. Full bluetooth etc. Just a better driving experience IMO.

I agree Ron, the C63BS is newer and nearly better as described in every way. However, that in itself is the issue I have with it. The CLKBS just looks like it was born mean with the stance of confidence, sublet but its presence is made know. The C63BS while aggressive, seems like the new kid on the block, young and a bit cocky IMHO, as if it has something to prove about being better. Please don't misunderstand I really like both cars absolutely, it's simply the vibe I get from them. Just my opinion...

Yeah the looks are totally subjective. I actually didnt think that the C63 looked all that great in pictures, but I saw mine for sale at a local dealer and figured id look at it for the hell of it. I knew I had to have it the moment I saw it. With the aero kit it just looks totally obnoxious ,but in a good way to me. I dont think you can go wrong with either car looks wise, but as far as a driving experience there is a clear winner.

As a R8 owner it looks like you have never driven....about 100HP more stock than a CLKBS...having said that my car is being converted to TT and will be at sema next month....will have considerably more than the 620 stock HP.

F-type...yawn.

Great Job on the conversion . 2 quick questions:

1. Part #s for OEM carbon fiber interior & exterior trim pieces? (I know they are officially discontinued)
2. Did/are you planning to retrofit the track package rear radiator or going aftermarket?

Thank you much. All the best in the New Year!

for the C63BS, they're still available from/through MB dealerships, but definitely stock-up while you can, or else it'll be too late not long from now like the CLK63BS parts.
