Sticky brakes - 2012 CLS 550

I find the brakes on my 2012 CLS 550 sticky. When releasing the brakes from a stop, they seem to release very abruptly and don't release progressively like most other cars. The car seems to suddenly jerk forward a bit. This does not happen on an incline. Does anybody else notice this?

I would check the calipers. Sounds like pressure is not released properly or caliper(s) do not retract as they should be.

Since you car is under warranty, take it to a dealer.

Igor.

Just noticed something interesting and wonder if there is a connection....When I bring the car to a stop and fully push down on break the car does not move...Engages some type of full braking....Is this on all models of MB or unique to the CLS 550?

Very neat feature....

Mine had that same problem a few months ago. (The brakes would also make a squeaking/grinding noise when coming to an abrupt stop.) But the problem suddenly went away after about a week before I got a chance to have it checked out. Weird.

Had the grinding/squeak when the car was new and went away after a month or so (pretty much on the day I took it to the dealer). This is not the brake hold feature - this is happening with regular braking. It tends to be more noticeable when the brakes have warmed up. I am due for an oil change soon so I will have them check it out then. Thanks for the responses.

My car is doing this as well. Were you able to fix the issue? What was the cause?

The brake feature is factory. If you push the brake pedal a bit further while stopped say on a red light, it will hold the brake itself. You will also see BRAKE showing up on the dashboard. Simply gas it when you ready to go.

I guess mine does that jerky movement when I have the BRAKE feature on when I directly hit the gas pedal. Maybe bc the system lets go of the brake very quickly and you feel that abrupt movement. But I have never experienced that abrupt or jerky movement when I am manually using the brakes.

Yes, I am more curious about the jerkyness when not using the brake "hold" feature.

My 2015 550 does something similar, has nothing to do with brake Hold function. Come to a stop, maintaining light pressure on the pedal to keep from creeping forward. It feels like the brakes actually release and I need to apply a bit more pressure to counter act it. It feels a little like a vehicle has lightly bumped into me from the rear. There is no visible/audible idle RPM increase. To make diagnosis that much more fun, it doesn't do it all the time.

Has been doing it since I bought the car used 06/19 with just over 11K miles on it, and it now has just over 28k miles. Completely stock. No idea what it is and have simply learned to live with it.

I have just resolved a similar issue on my car..... found it was the mechanical side of the abs pump, swapped the control unit with a second hand one and it drives perfectly.. hope this helps
