Power Steering Malfunction.

I stopped for gas a few days ago and when i got back into the car the MFD displayed "Power Steering Malfunction". I tried to pull to the side to call roadside assistance but could not make the turn since the power steering was out. I figured it was a computer malfunction so i turned the car off for 5 minutes and everything was back to normal.

Has anyone experienced the same problem?

Here is some info for others who might run into this problem.

LI46.35-P-053719 MAY12 – 218 only “Power Steering Malfunction, Service Required” fault message on engine start, perform software update.

Thanks for the info, its the first time I have seen anyone mention any steering problems. I think this is fairly new technology on the CLS with fully electronic steering. Apparently it is one of the fuel saving features as it only uses power when the steering is used unlike other systems. Mercedes did a lot of research with drivers to get the combination right at various speeds. I think they have done a brill job as its like steering a much smaller car. I noticed a big difference when I had a C Class loaner the other day.

Power steering malfunction

Does anyone know why this morning when I started my car the power steering malfunction came on a after a minute and the steering wheel became stiff. When I turned it off and turned it back on it was normal then back to stuff again

Hello everybody.I have a mercedes Benz CLS W218 550. I have seen in screen a problem which is writing: POWER STEERING MALFUNCTION. I can not move the drive on left and on right. please someone help me to choose this problem?
