Hello, my wife recently bought a 2015 C300, she was in love up until the 6th day of ownership when she called me from the parking lot of our kids daycare that the power steering had failed. I went over and drove it home. An hour later I started it up and it worked fine. The following day it worked fine still, but the dealer wanted the car, they’ve had it for a couple days waiting on word from MB. Anyone else experience this issue?
This may be different, the recall is for a steering gear... Unlikely it would give a dashboard message and your dealer would have already told you about it
This is an error I haven't seen before. It could be as simple as a computer glitch, but the error code will have been recorded so the dealer can properly diagnose the problem.
Please post the resolution when you get the car back from the dealer.
Well, they called and told me the vehicle was ready for pickup. Told me that they would show me a way to lessen the likelihood that this happens again and that a software update in December should correct the issue permanently.
A case was opened and MB Tech support advised that a software update would be available in December. Stated that if the problem happened again, to turn off the vehicle; wait 5 minutes (ES Control unit must shut down) and then start vehicle without any steering inputs (which can provoke the failure)

Same thing just happened to me. Power steering failure and I'm not able to turn the steering wheel. I'm stuck in a parking lot waiting for a tow to the dealership. I heard about the recall before I took delivery and asked if they had taken care of that. They said no need to worry....
So of course as soon as the tow truck arrives and we start up the car, the error message is clear and the steering is working again. I took a picture of dash so that the dealership doesn't think i'm crazy. Ended up still getting it taken to the dealership for them to look at.

Hi.. I just bought my 2015 MB C300 and I had the same problem after two weeks.. I brought it back to the dealer and they said its a software malfunction and they updated the software that they have to download straight from Germany.. It took them a whole day.
I just received exactly the same Power Steering Malfunction Warning and my wheel totally locked up. Had to have the car towed on a flat bed to the dealer. I've only had the car about 3 weeks. Ticks me off.
Any word on the software patch that users here said was coming in December for this, and the Command bug?
No chance they can update the cars with this w/o a trip to dealer, I'm assuming. With sat tech, how cool it would be if could park car in line of sight of sky and click 'update'?
Same thing happened this evening to my 2015 Mercedes C300. Unclear why owners in the US were not alerted to the recall if the problem has been recognzed since November!
Just got the same message on a C400 with ~2000 miles on it. Happened on a Sunday with the service department closed (Murphy's law). Will try the restart.
Same thing happened to my C 300 2015 today.I was in a parking lot and when started my car, stearing was totally stuck with a stearing mal function error.Called tow truck and when he arrived error was gone.I towed car to dealership.They did not have any satisfactory answer but convincing me to take the car back.I did not bring it back and got a loaner.I dont think they are able to diagnose any problem.I assume it could be serious if happen while driving.Please keep posted if any update on the issue.
this happened to me today too. i was getting the car washed and i got in and power steering malfunction. i turned the car off and called the closest dealer. by the time they transfered me to road side, i turned the car back on and the error was gone.
I was never able to reproduce the malfunction but I did take it to get the software update nonetheless. Dealer was clueless about the update despite originally telling me MB support told them to expect an update in December. When I kept insisting that others have stated they had a software update done to their car, they eventually figured out there was one. Took about half a day.
If anyone finds this post while it happening to them, just turn the car off completely for 5-10 minutes and the malfunction should clear itself. Odd and unsettling yeah, but might save you from a tow.
The best thing to do is take your car back to the dealer and they will upload a software update - my 2015 C-300 seems to be doing fine since the update.
Here is update.My dealer after 4 days of investigation called me and said ,it needs steering stem to be replaced.They replaced it and when I picked the car and drove it.,Steering was about 15 degree off centre.
I took it back next day.They kept it for the day and called me to say they have fixed it.When I picked it back ,it had the same issue.Steering off centre to same degree.I think they just cheated me.I have lodged complaint to their head office and am waiting for their response.
