I don’t think it’s wise to just go with the tune with the biggest numbers. What does a tune like that do to reliability, plug life, and potential knock conditions on readily available gas? If course it depends on your priorities and whether it’s for racing or street but it’s probably smarter to get a tune that’s a balance of performance gains without pushing the timing to the point where serious knock is a concern if your plugs aren’t brand new.

I’m not trying to rain on your parade, just don’t be suckered in by big marketing numbers, or even a nice dyno chart. No gains are had for free... there are trade-offs. MBs stock tune is way conservative, but just be concious of the fact that 200HP and 250Ft-Lb of torque just aren’t coming along for $1400 without any compromises in other areas. Read up on spark plugs for these tunes at the very least. Most of the major tuners talk a lot about crazy HP and torque gains but not what they do to your engine to achieve it. Read up on it and decide what mix of power and added maintenance or repair is ideal for you.

There is more information about Stage 1 vs Stage 2 at the link below. Downpipes are essential for all Stage 2 tunes.

Looking for a quote to tune a 2013 CLS 550 using 93 octane.

Vendor Tune Selection
After calling various vendors to discuss their tunes, pricing and the overall process I decided to go with OE Tuning. Jeremy and Ryan were great throughtout the entire process. They answered all my questions, provided a detailed document on how to remove and install the ecu and remained in contact (via email and telephone) with me the entire time to let me know they received and shipped my ecu.

The Tuning Process:
ECU removal and install was very very simple. The entire tuning process took less than 3 full days. I shipped it via overnight to them in cali from nyc on monday morning and received it back wed by 10:30am.

Performance
I LOVE the tune. Throttle response is far greater and the added power is very very noticeable. The car pulls very hard throughtout the entire rpm range. Feels like an entirely new car. At 20mph in 75 degree weather I am able to get the traction control to engage on the 4matic! To gauge its new performance I had a chance to see how it compares to a modded E55 wagon. A close friend of mine (and member here) has a 2006 E55 Wagon with modded supercharger pulley (equivalent to 168 crank pulley). We had a chance to make several runs last night from a stop and roll. From a dig the 4matic advantage is very clear as the car would launch very hard and jumjp out about 2 car lengths and slowly pull another 1/2-1 car length before we shut down. From a roll the car would slowly pull to about 1 1/2-2 cars everytime before we shut down.

I have been racing cars at the track for years and based on how the car feels, I am confident that the car will easily run from 11.9-12.2 based on weather and launch.

Overall I am extremely happy with my choice and new found power. Hopefully this review helps anyone thinking of getting their 550 Bi-turbo tuned!

Did you happen to get the “exhaust pop” feature?
