Update

Hi All,

Just want to share my results before the big numbers hit the dyno. Last week we tune the car on 1.55 bar max boost pressure and we hit 604 whp on mainline dyno and 980nm on the wheels (equal to 700whp on dynojet). This Monday we will go for 2 bar and 780-800 on the mainline dyno whp The car is making 4.9s 100-200km/h at 1.55 bar... So far so good. We check all tuned AMG that were tuned on this same mainline dyno and the result is +205 whp for the cls550 compared to tuned cls63 amg s 4matic at 6300rpm. I have installed map sensors from a45 amg (3.5 bar max boost pressure) and we will go for up to 2 bar and hit 1000+ on the engine (the tuner was able to calibrate the map sensor for med17.7.1 ecu as well as remove some limitations) The car is brutal in acceleration. I'am sure the car will hit 9s 1/4 time. Will post the dyno video as well as acceleration and v-box data after the 2 bar settings are ready. So if you think m157 is much better think twice. M278 just need some more boost and can leave any tuned amg in the dust..

1.5 bar dyno sheet

1.5 bar max boost pressure. 615WHP/ 915nm at the wheels on the lowest reading dyno around (for example tuned cls63 amg s with downpipes is 515-525 at the wheels on the same dyno ). Front and rear LSD 4matic. We had no time left to setup the car for more than 1.5 bar. Next dyno session will be for 28-30psi boost

Yes i have build all charge piping (including intake piping), intercoolers and the rest of the setup too

Love everything you’re doing and considering following your path as well, to an extent haha. Looking over your dyno, the torque has pushed back in the rpm range, is that due to the larger Turbos not reaching boost as quick? I’m still learning that’s why I ask. Love the power that just keeps increasing now instead of dying off!

The torque is lowered in the mid rpm range to not rip apart the transmision as well as the drivetrain The turbos spool very fast. The next step with 30psi boost is to hold the torque till redline and rise the power.

Very random question for you Gardevski, I’ve been reviewing over your pictures of your engine with differentials in sight and part numbers for front axles etc. I’m wondering since you own both AWD and RWD CLS classes, how much more room does the front differential/driveline take up compared to your RWD 63? I’m curious because I’m thinking of possibly converting my E Coupe to 4matic. I know my chassis is based on C, but many parts by Mercedes are interchangeable. If I could I could get an idea of the difference between your two cars I might be able to source parts from the e sedan 4matic/c350 4matic and just possibly shorten the driveshafts and re spline them etc. Just thought I’d ask since you work on your cars and you’d might have an idea about the room etc. didn’t know if under the hood/chassis they made any bracket additions between the two or if they’re basically the same

Car is running okay but iam seeing alot of oil resadue in the front i know one spot is my oil cooler thats about the middle front but their is some on left side and right side both in the same spot someone had told my cams are on both sides and its under them please share your knowledge

Where you been Brotha?? Waiting with anticipation for the new numbers on your insane build! I've been following somewhat in your footsteps. Tune, Methanol Injections, MBH Catless Downpipes, and if that isn't enough I plan on taking the plunge on upgrading to the M178 Turbo's.

Hi There ,

Not much time available but the car is running great (10k miles on the kit) When i'am ready and the car is tested will show the last results I have developed new intercooler setup with new trunk ice tank and pump. The china's intercooler cores are piece of junk and went with two water to air garrett cores. So i can rise the boost now and keep 100-105f iat under full boost for long time (no ice in the tank) ... the rule pump was also replaced by EMP-E2512A 25A version which is few times more powerful and make 35gpm with 1-1/8" water lines that i have installed..

After 25k miles update i can state that the m278 engine is the best build by mercedes so far. The car is running as daily on 1.7 up to 2 bar of boost for the last 1 year and oil consumption for 7k miles is 500ml... This is one of the most powerful MB on the street running 1000+hp now and able to do 0-200km/h under 7 sec. I have made new intake and cooling system, since the last year and in 15k miles not run in single issues. The car is for sale now (only serious buyers)

The car feature: Twin GTX3071r GEN2 turbos with 0/.82AR Tial turbine housing
Front and rear LSD Quaife LSD difs
custom intercooler system with twin garrett 750hp water to air intercoolers (1.1/4 intecooler piping with EMP25 amp pump (130l min with 40l cooling fluid in the trunk)
Aquamist water/meth injection

Sorry to hear you are selling the car.

Wondering how was this possible to swap out the transfer case for the AMG version?

I thought it was attached to the transmission so you need to use the transmission.

i i’ve just installed 6.3 turbos and on dyno, 1100nm, ecu close throttle, man how makes calibration, told me that it because 1100nm and we need to change software for transmission. Could You tell me what did You do with this?

i see magic motorsport has trans flash availible now, so i would image you can adjust in that

Hello,

To make power on this platform you have to make 1000-1100N/M at 6500rpm not 3500-4200. This is the way. So you need big turbos. With M157 turbos you have quite big torque on lower rmp then after 4500rpm they are dead. Big turbos, high boost at maximum rpm. No way to trick the gearbox tcu. With m157 turbos maximum power is 700-720hp

Btw iam about to sell this car and can offer the complete pacakge of twin gtx 3071r turbos, twin garrett water to air intercooler, water/meth injection and trunk ice tank (including 130l min intercooler pump and heat exchanger) for $12k ready to go. You can install this pacakge on any m278 or m157 for 1000+hp (need ecu tune) or the whole car for $39999 USD The car is currenly at 92k miles and run like new. All possible options, new 19 inch wheels, brakes etc and many more. I went with w213 amg and drive this car only on weekends. PM for more info

maybe you missed my post, but no need to trick gearbox ecu if you can tune it. 7.229 flashing from magic motorsports was just emailed to me, have not seen if alientech or others can flash 722.9 vgsnag or nag2 yet

Based on the info above after reading majority of the thread and didn't see if engine/trans internals were changed/upgraded and power output is exponentially higher. Is it true that no engine/trans internal were upgraded? Is everything stock with engine/trans?
I'm thinking to get DPs, Stage 2, and Meth kit. I believe the power output should be around 600-620hp and close to 700tq, give or take.

@gardevski you mentioned that our 4.7L has forged pistons and other parts...stock internals should be able to withhold that much power, right?
I'm not planning to upgrade turbos and such. Too costly for me. Maybe at a later date.

Like when exactly. Would stock rods not sustain the power output between 500-600hp over longer periods of time? If you happen to know and is it a matter of high heat or the amount of power/rpm?

I will sure give these tuning companies a call and see what they have to say. But its better to get information from someone who has personal experience with them, you know.

I'm not expert on the internals, so sorry if I sound a bit stupid here haha. Here to learn.
