Windshield Wipers Swipe on Startup

Hi,

I had my cracked windshield replaced at the MB dealership with OEM Saint Gobain Sekurit windshield.

Everything looks great, but now my windshield wiper will do one swipe upon startup in the "..." auto setting and it never did this before. It doesn't occur in the "off" position.

Has anyone experienced this and is there an easy fix rather than returning to dealership?

For example, does the rain sensor need to be cleaned and does anyone have copy of manual with procedures to properly remove for cleaning??

Thanks.

sensor not responding as original

Hi. I'm having the same problem as of Friday when I had an aftermarket screen installed. On startup it will swipe once when in auto. This is unhealthy because dust can scratch the glass. And also the after market glass does not have a special coating so when water droplets fall it does not get blurry so now it's very blur. And the sensor will not engage even when screen is completely wet. I'm frustrated.

I will try and clean the sensitive areas with alcohol and see what happens.

I've been looking into this and suspect there is an issue with the actual rain sensor installation behind the rear view mirror. Looking from the outside, the sensor doesn't look like its making contact against the windshield. I've scheduled an appointment with the dealership on Monday to check it out and will let you know.

The rain sensor was removed, cleaned, re-installed, and re-calibrated. It no longer swipes on start up in auto mode and is working normal now.

Never leave mine in Auto. They react to darkness and came on every time I started car in garage. Only ran once, but still. Also, if you use an car wash, they will come on and run while going through the car wash. Most attendants know to check, but as the signs say: Not responsible for auto wiper damages.
