check engine light ON

2014 CLS 550--57K miles
Check engine light came on --stayed on. Took to my Indy guy whose diagnostic was that the car had misfired (likely needed a new coil on one of the plugs)--he reset the light--I drove it for a week and didn't see a repeat
Then yesterday--the check engine light came on.
This model calls for new plugs etc etc at 60K miles--and I'm close with 57K--however for business reasons--would rather wait til 2020 to incur this expense.
Car runs great--no difference from before the light went on
Is it safe to wait 6 week? What harm could I do (assuming the car continues to run well--starts well etc etc)?

I had a similar issue within the last month. They changed my spark plugs. Issue came back in a week. They changed my coils and a week later issue returns. Take it back to the dealer and they say my engine is bad. 2015 with 75k. Mercedes is refusing to pay. New engine price? $32k! The car isn’t worth $30k lol.

It’s a 2015 CLS 550 4matic. It was running perfectly fine. The cars been at the dealer for almost a month so I do not have manufactured date. I refuse to spend $32k on an engine when the cars worth less than that.

The Germans are brutal--had a similar though not nearly as dire an experience with a BMW in the 90-s. I argued for months and they just stonewalled me
Why are they saying you need a new engine? Your saying the car was running "fine"--just because the "idiot" light comes on?

If you post your VIN--there are tools to decode you manufacture date --I'll search for it and do another post when I find it (if I do)--plus your dealer can tell you

One fairly inexpensive one I recently learned of is bluedriver obd2.

Get a second opinion!! Do you have a shop that does just MB? Or a Euro shop? The dealers cannot be trusted to do the right thing. What if it was an 02 sensor or something?

just doing my due diligence--it's got a lot of reviews on Amazon and a lot are saying it's not (very) compatible with some MB models--(didn't see anything specific to our model)
I take mine to an independent German car guy and have for years--I trust him -- he's not the cheapest (from what I know)--but a heck of a lot cheaper than the "stealer"
for sure. main thing is I trust the guy and he's never done bad work on any of my cars (last 25 years worth)
I have 57K and with 60K service coming due (replace spark plugs)--I have scheduled with the guy in a couple of weeks--versus waiting another 3K miles
I'll probably just run with that -- as I do trust him.
but the guy who says his 2015 engine in finished--is pretty scary.

There is a very recent thread here, a day or two old, of a guy using a bluedriver on a 2012 cls 550 and he posted the reprt. Looks pretty compatible to me. Also, its a thread asking if he should purchase the car or not and it shows him all the codes the car kicked out. I actually just ordered one. If you are near NYC or northern Nj u r welcome to come over and use it.

I also have a super stand up guy that works on euro exclusively that can give you a second opinion. His rates are very reasonable too. Sometimes I think he is in business to help people out more than in it for the money. Great great guy w tons of experience. Best customer svc too.

edit - just found the thread.
