Engine Chain 2012 CLS 550 needs replaced
Has anyone had to deal with their engine chain needing to be replaced yet? Dealer tried to put tensioners in but that didn't work at $1,500, but came back and said the whole chain needs to be replaced $6,900...Out of warrant so that's not going to happen engine is at 120K miles.
I get my car serviced at the dealer and this seems ridiculous to be having major engine trouble.

Usually when the tensioners need to be replaced then so does the chain. At 120k miles the chain will have definitely stretched and will just wear the new tensioners prematurely. What are your current symptoms? Is there a loud ticking?

Just engine rattle during cold startup that lasts for about 5 seconds then goes away. Service bulletin says replace tensioners and check valve. Either they didnt do the service right or the chain quality is just not that great. Seems like the engines sucks if you have to dump $7K in it at 120K miles for such an expensive vehicle already. Tensioners I get but the whole chain is not acceptable at $7K.
