Should Carmax Take Back My CLS550 4matic?
Hi All,
3 months ago I bought a 2014 CL550 4Matic from Carmx plus their extended warranty. The car was heavily upgraded and had the "AMG Package" and AMG Wheels (it was sold to me that way). Long story short, today a mechanic told me the upgraded wheels were the wrong size for the car, they were heavily rubbing against the calipers and that the car was not safe to drive. He said the wheels were the completely wrong size and model for my car.
Carmax offered to swap the wheels for 17 inch versions. But one of the big reasons I bought the car was because of the upgraded 19 inch AMG wheels. There are no equivalents that will fit my current model car that Carmax can get.
Is it completely unreasonable for me to ask them to take the car back and let me trade it against something else on their lot (without taking any loss on what they sold it to me for)? After all they did misrepresent what they sold me in the first place and it was also a safety hazard.
Let me know what you guys think...

That doesn’t seem unreasonable, as it was misrepresented. At the least, it would need the proper AMG wheels, matching tires, and any other upgrades that come with the AMG package, such as full manual shifting. Hopefully, you have some leverage, 3 months in.
My dealer provided the “Vehicle Master Inquiry”, which gives all the original, delivered equipment. That’s a good starting place with a used MB.

There are 19 inch AMG wheels that do fit the 2014
CLS550 and there are no 17 inch wheels that come from the factory for this car. Very odd, what CarMax is proposing. I don't think they know what they are talking about. Get the 19 inch AMG wheel part number from your local Benz dealer, have CarMax supply those or have them take the car back. The 14 CLS550 has staggered front vs rear.

I hope they let you return the car..........I'd tell them to GFT's after that and not give them another dime. CarMax is FULL of bottom feeder MF'er's that can eat sh%$.

Yeah I agree, 17” are too small for the large 14.2” brake disc the CLS550 come with. The minimum size wheels are 18” wheels for those brakes. Go to your local dealer parts department and have them print out a sample invoice of how much it would cost for 4 oem wheels and tires for your specific year and model CLS. Take it to the car max general manager if he doesn’t approve they repair go to Car Max’s headquarters customer service hotline and complain. You need to force their hand on this issue.

I work for CarMax and they will take the car back. The customer returned a car back after 40 days cause he kept complaining. I would tell them to give you reimbursement for a new set.

3 month later is a bit too long, you should have noticed this rubbing during your test drive or had an independent check of the car. I hate to say it but this is on you for not doing your do diligence before making the purchase..
