Spare key FOB
Ok, I have searched and did not like the answers I came across so I will ask again in hopes times have changed some things.
I would feel more comfortable having a spare key for my car. I called the dealer and was quoted upwards of $600. Is there any work around here?
Also, if I was ever in dire straits, is there a way to start the car with the blade key only?

After 2015, the only way to get a spare key is through the dealer and it'll run you between $600-800. They charge the price of the key + 1 hour's labor for programming. Since your car is a 2014, it doesn't have to be programmed in a specific way, or whatever changes they made in 2015. Look for services in your area that program Mercedes keys, maybe on craigslist? 2014 is the last year where people could do this on their own rather than only being able to get it from the dealer.

There is always a way to get a spare key from a good indy shop, but the chances that someone does it is pretty low.
Your other choice is to simply call another dealer. This is not a price mandated by manufacturer, so dealers have free reign on how much to charge. I've heard before that different dealers will charge different amount. It probably still will be close to $300-400.
