Question Can't decide on a tune for my CLS550, Eurocharged, Weistec, or OE??

Ok so I am basically ready to pull the trigger on an Eurocharged Stage 1 tune, but now I can't make up my mind and I am also staring at Wiestec which is the same price, and OE tuning which is a LOT cheaper AND includes the my-genius handheld tuner

I have a 2012 CLS550 with 60k miles, just looking for a bit extra power while maintaining reliability. Not looking for max power, and will probably get it dyno'd after to check AFR to be sure that it is safe and no issues.

Fresh spark plugs. Very well maintained usually 5k oil changes, fresh trans and differential fluid.

Eurocharged and Wiestec are $1275
OE Tuning is discounted much further at $970

I am fine spending a few more bucks honestly, but AMS and Renntech seem to carry a much higher price premium so I am not really considering them right now.

Eurocharged and Weistec are both very popular, OE tuning I am less familiar with and how much development they have done with the M278.

I think I am going with Eurocharged but figured I would make a quick post and see if anyone can sway my opinion. OE including the hand-held tuner for such a low price is what is stopping me from pulling the trigger right now

Thank you in advance

I always thought the second most reputable brand after Renntech was EC so I went with them.

Went with weistec stage 2 file and am super satisfied. I had a buddy who swears by weistec so I decided to give em a shot based on his experiences and am completely satisfied. Their responses were super fast, and any issues had, they answered right away. I’ve also been working a ton of hours so it was nice to get off work late and they are still open responding to emails and I did everything after work myself and I really don’t even know what I’m doing lol so that says a lot as far as how easy it was to install. I chose weistec for a few reasons one of them being, a friend personally went with them but also because of future modifications that plug and play. I couldn’t be more satisfied. I know a lot of people on here have oe and ec and swear by the tuners and their tunes. I think it’s safe to say any one of those you should be fine. My .02

In my experience i went with stage 1 from OE Tuning. I have the 400 model and the difference in price was almost x1.5 OE vs the rest. I live in Cali so can't really go stage 2 and keeping it street legal, so i'm happy with what i got. So just pick the one you like the most and go with it.

OE Stage I is sale priced at $800 right now including MyGenius handheld. I've had mine for about 1.5 years and it does everything you're asking for and more. It's great to be able to go back to the MB tune when you go to your MB dealer and takes about 5 minutes to change. For the price, I can't imagine going with any other brand. Marv

I went with the OE stage one tune last year and could not be happier. $800 is a record low!

Hey guys, thank you all very much for the input! Sorry for the late response, has been a busy weekend for me.

I am going to go with OE tuning because it gives me some extra budget to put towards a lowering module which is a win/win in my book. I snagged a used 2012 CLS550 because I am frugal so this suits the build.
Additionally I also like how OE specifically says they will retune for a reasonable price if modifications change such as adding downpipes, exhaust, etc. which is nice if you are looking to just build a bolt-ons CLS
I think I am going to be out of grip anyways for now with stock Pirelli OE spec 285's on the rear anyways

I wonder if they could remote-tune me somehow, since they are in CA and I am in FL. That is the one reason why I was almost 100% sure on EC because I live in Tampa and they have a facility in Orlando, but honestly if I do downpipes I will likely do upgraded turbos and maybe some methanol which will require a dyno tune anyways and I will be spending a bomb so a dyno tune is more appropriate

I'd call each one of them and check their prices for Stage 1, Stage 2, and Stage 3 prices so you don't get surprised by their Re-Flash Tune whenever you do another mod. Some charge low for the Re-Flash, but high for the Re-Tune say if you swap the M157 turbos in M278. I should have done that when I bought my tune, but it's too late now lol So check every reflash and retune price. Otherwise, all those mentioned companies are very good. Have not heard a single issue with either one of them.

I'm going with AMR Performance. They are very reputable with high end euro tunes, and have lots of experience with Mercedes. I am working with Chris Chan, one of their reps, who is extremely informative. Their tunes seem to offer the biggest gains with the least modifications, and they offer a handheld tuner which is nice. On an M278 E550 they produced 460 whp and 625 wtq after a tune alone! With 17% correction factor, that's about 538hp, 731tq! They also offer a TCU tune to remove the torque limiters and manage that power a lot more efficiently, which is available for both 7 & 9 Speed.

Yeah, know that AMR and RennTech are both getting "more" power out of the tune but seeing as I just got purchased car I went with an off-the-shelf tune just because I didn't want to spend too much money.

OE Tuning BlackFriday deal was literally 65% cheaper which is just a ridiculously good deal. Actually the cost savings is half of the rims that I want which is amazing because I am kinda just a regular guy not super wealthy, haha. Penny pinch where it makes sense.
At some point it will need a custom dyno tune but I generally like to collect parts and then build it in like 1-2 weeks on something like this (where I am not doing extensive chassis modifications and such), and will probably go with

Honestly, I really just want methanol injection to cool down IAT's at WOT and provide some cleaning power for the valves thanks to Direct Injection, probably upgrade the IC system (bigger pump + heat exchanger), see how the factory turbos do with that kind of a setup and decide from there.

Flashed the 93 octane tune and WOW what a difference. Very clear how conservatively MB tuned these things so they did not compare to the AMG cars haha. Love it, feels like a sleeper since it is stock appearance right now. Definitely out of grip with factory 285's, not even close. Going to need to go to something like a Nitto NT05 on the rear

Thanks OE Tuning for the very prompt turn around time!!! Beats the hell out of a waiting for a bench flash.

I recently purchased a 2013 CLS 550 with 540/715 tuning from Westech (Stage 2?) and am very happy with the everyday driveability. Full throttle applications are nothing short of violent in the lower gears. Highly recommended

For reference what do they charge for a stage 2 tune and what changes have you made to your CLS550?

The current price is $1500 HERE
Outside of adding a Quaife limited-slip differential, the car is stock. Before summer I plan on adding an upgraded intercooler pump (I'm in Arizona).

Thanks for the info. Did they have to do any grinding of metal to get the locking diff to fit?

The former owner had it done so I don't know for sure. Looking at the Quaife site, it appears to be a bolt-in.

weistec stage 1 is the 540/715 crank numbers
their stage 2 (sports exhaust/downpipes) 588/765

I have the 3in Catless downpipes, cold air intake installed with their asv, filters and stage 2 tune.
Can’t wait to dyno. I am absolutely in love with the car and tune. I can’t wait to add water/meth kit, ic upgrade and new turbos in summer. Very happy with weistec and can’t wait to see what’s to come.

the difference is in the downpipes, I’d love to see some actual dyno numbers, I have just been swamped with work and the family and holidays. Hoping to fix some of the smaller issues I have (ie brakes, lower coolant line needs replaced, small airmatic issue) in the coming weeks and go get the car on the dyno and do a stock pull and a tuned pull . I d really like to see some of the other numbers as well from other tunes. I’m in sales and marketing and I know there’s a lot of gassed up products in the world and am curious to see some of the ACTUAL numbers including weistecs

I’m also in cali and was wondering if a OE tune tune without downpipes would be good any good on 2016 cls550. How much faster would the 2016 be with the tune since it has the new 9 speed transmission ? Does anybody have any info on that ? Would I be a mid 11 in the 1/4 ? 3.5 and below 0-60??

I have a Eurocharged stage 2 on its way to me as I type. The good news with them is they have a location about 90 minutes from my house, so I can go in and dyno tune if I want to customize my tune down the line after more upgrades.

FWIW, I went with OE Tuning on my GTS and my GL63, great guys and great prices TBH.
Have had no issues over a year on both cars. Their tune is worth it just for the throttle response.
Will be using them for the CLS550 I just got as well.
