Parking brake
Hey everybody,
I am still getting used to my new ride and noticed that the parking brake sucks. First, I have to push it down very hard to engage. More seriously, it does not disengage. I was almost stranded in my own driveway yesterday trying to disengage it.
I'm not too worried about the first problem since an adjustment would probably correct it (rear pads look good). However, how do I fix the second problem? I was able to disengage it by pulling the pedal up manually with my foot. I read that sometimes the cable end pulls through the release lever, but mine is still intact. Is there a spring or mechanism that needs service/replacement? Are both problems corrected with the adjustment?
I am well-versed in car repair, just new to Mercedes. Any help is appreciated.
Regards,
Austin

Does anyone know if you can adjust the pedal or parking brake to shorten the throw of the pedal? My pedal works and engages the brake but have to push pedal almost to floor.

Mine wouldn’t release, so I took it to the dealer. They told. E the entire mechanism, would have to be replaced and the labour was significant. Quoted me $550+tax. I told the forget it. About a week later, I stumbled upon a DIY for the very issue, so I tried it. In fact, it may well be the same video as posted above. That was over a year ago and it has not given me a problem since.

I would have tried the DIY fix myself, but the dealer attempted a repair while the car was still under warranty. The warranty has since expired and their "fix" didn't last long, but they agreed to fix it again at their expense. Perhaps the new foot pedal assembly has been altered to incorporate a stronger return spring.
The car also needed tires so I just dropped it off this morning for those and the parking brake repair.

Fixed!
Hey all,
I finally got around do watching the video and fixing this problem. My only hiccup was the end of the spring somehow came out of it's holder, so I needed a screw driver to guide it back in. I also used wire shrink wrap to fuse two straws together so I would have the length to get to the top of the spring without making a mess. Overall it was a very easy fix. I use the brake a lot so I don't see this problem returning.
Thanks for the help!
