W212 E63 to CLS 550?

Hey all, I’m considering “upgrading” my wife’s 2010 E63 to a 2012+ CLS 550 and looking for input. Our E63 has been a fantastic car, purchased at 40k and now at 80k with zero issues and still in immaculate condition. With that said after three years she is getting the itch for something new, and truth be told she really doesn’t NEED an E63. From my research I can sell the E63 and get a CLS550 with much lower miles, probably more features, and pretty equal straight line performance. I’m expecting to give up some of the AMG raw responsiveness, but she’s not exactly flinging it around a track on her way to fetch groceries. Anyway has anyone compared the W212 with the C218 and if so, what do you see as the pros and cons? Starting here because there’s not a comparable car locally for us to look at right now. Thanks!

I can't accurately answer that question as we have a W211 E350 and W218 CLS550, but the chassis and interior of the two are worlds apart. Not so sure I'd say that about the chassis with the E63 versus the grocery-getter E350, but I have little doubt you'd love the W218 platform. For only $1.5K more, get a Weistec Engineering ECU tune and the 540HP/715 FT LBs torque won't have you missing the AMG responsiveness, guaranteed Good luck!

I appreciate the feedback, thanks! So I assume based on your feedback that the interior of the W218 is much nicer? My single complaint about the W212 is that the interior is just ok by Mercedes standards, and has a few more creaks and rattles than I would like. Granted that’s in a fairly stiff E63 with the performance package, so some of that just comes with the territory.

IMHO, the interior is by far the best part - much more contemporary with higher quality finishes.

The c218 is based off the w212, so The interior is identical.

I apologize, I assumed the W212 was a variant of the W211 - my mistake.

2010 C300 4MATIC........ 2011 C63 AMG.............. 2015 CLS400 4MATIC.....
I think technology wise it would be a great upgrade, with the added benefits of turbo mpg.

It's not a drastic move but I think you guys should test drive and find out for yourselves.
