My new(newly bought) cls550

Picked up my 2012 CLS550 this past summer and am loving the experience. Have only owned a C320 in the past and bought this moving art piece for general pleasure, but also to use as my road-trip mobile in my retirement, which is coming up in a short couple of years. Got it wit just 60k miles and in well cared for, pristine condition. This one owner car had all the services done on time and was current and up to date when I bought it. I would love any feedback on this year and model, and anything to look out for as the miles increase. Here are a few pics for your(hopeful) enjoyment.

congrats. Looks like Palladium Silver with OEM 18 inch wheels. Mine is similar but I have the AMG 18 inchers and a custom installed CF spoiler. Check if your cam magnets and cam sensors are OK or if there are any oil leaks. Look at all four of them. Addressing this early will save big $$$ later on. OEM pigtail extensions are a viable solution to prevent oil leakage from getting to your ECU. enjoy in good health !

Welcome and you are in the right place.
You will get a lot of advice, guidance and opinions here. Use the "forum search" option as a starter. The topic you are looking for has likely been discussed.
That is a beautiful car. I love the gray exterior. Think of it as a race horse. Take care of it and it will take care of you.

I believe there was a timing chain guide issue with the earlier (pre 2013) M278 engines. Premature wear.
This may have been corrected on your car since you have 60+k. Just be sensitive to noises at idle.
Get the service interval list for your car. What and when should be serviced. This will help you plan.
Also, MB recommends 1 year or 10k miles between oil changes. Whichever occurs first.
In my opinion, there is no need to wait for the 10k miles mark. Changing the oil earlier will not hurt the engine.

Thanks for the reply. I'll have to take a look at the AMG wheels to make a comparison. And, for sure, great info on the cam magnets and cam sensors. This is exactly why these forums and owner knowledge is so valuable to new platform ownership like me. I absolutely love the car, but know I will be making small changes to start with down the road, both for upkeep as well as for performance and drivability. Enjoy your ride also. Keep in touch.

OP: That is what the AMG 18 inchers look like. There are 19 inchers too and if you live in California your roads might be better and you might get by OK with 19s. I don't dare do 19s here in the northeast - pothole season is upon us as we speak.

Good looking wheels. Thanks. And good looking car also I would stick with the 18 inches in any case, but also understand the "pothole" exercise in caution. None of these wheels are cheap.

Hey, I've got a quick question for you. When I start up my car cold, it, of course goes into the fast idle until the systems normalize and settle into their temp profiles. Bug when first starting, the motor is rough and shaky and only smooths out after about 30 seconds of the fast idle. Is this normal operation or is the motor hurting itself because it is starting up "dry" for some reason or something like that? Hoping you can help. Happy Friday.

Mine is louder to start. Would not call it shaky though. Just sounds a little rough until it settles down after about 30 secs to 1 min. If yours has a rattle to start, see the timing chain guide post above.

It's a myth that California roads are decent....they're terrible. I already have one bent wheel. Yes the weather is good, but we also have more than 31 million registered vehicles, more than twice that of any other state. Also, since we're like the 6th largest economy (just CA), we have the appropriate amount of big rig traffic. I'd put on 18s if I could find a cheap set.

Could be as simple as your plugs....also as an FYI mine has 155k and I did a Carfax and it's basically had nothing but regular maintenance, so there's hope you won't run into chain issues or any of the other major problems.
