Ok guys, is it me, or on the street has anyone else confused an LS300 Lexus for the CLS

no such thing... u mean the ES? cause of the long headlights that ride up the hood? similarities stop there...

i agree with adam76 about the service quality - i think Toyota in general and Lexus specifically work seriously hard at quality and MB must take some cues from them in this area.
I looked at the ES300 in my consideration of the CLS500 and while there are some design cues that have resemblance, in my opinion, the overall sheet metal is sculpted in some uniquely different ways, and the interiors are even more different. It is not too difficult to see the difference between Japanese and German concepts of interior space, even through the similarities.
but at night, in silhouette, or in a flash out-of-the-corner-of-your-eye i can see where it could be confusing as to which car you are seeing. my wife likes the headlights of both cars, so centering on those cues could be confusing. but she also makes a lot of determination of a car's looks by viewing them from the back and she can identify cars far better than i can from their taillights and trunk lid configurations.
