Some companies have different attitudes towards making products. Hey, I love BBS, but their style just isn't for me in my case. If I had something like a coupe, I know BBS would probably be my first choice. Lightweight, strong, and they look fantastic. However on the X5, it's not like I'm going to race the car, so trying to stretch my eyes to overlook something such as HRE's would be foolish. (But at the same time, I'm not going to put 30lb rims on the car!)
30 pounds for a wheel on your car is light... some of these wheels like Lowenharts and Lexanis and all the chromed out stuff are well into the mid 40 pound range. I have seen as high as 50!

I'd have to be insane to go that heavy. If I can't find a good 22" in the 30's (35lb is the highest I'll do..) I'll step down to 20.

Weight is always the number one enemy.
Perhaps that's too generalized. I guess the position of weight is the biggest enemy. Too much rotational mass and it saps power. Not enough weight over the driven wheels = loss of traction as the E55 Wagons are experiencing with their 60ft times.

Very gangsta! They wouldn't be my first choice, but they aren't bad on the CLS.
