Bluetooth Connection

Hi Guys

Having just sold my CLK , I was advised by my MB dealer that my CLS "arriving in two weeks " will have bluetooth capability ? Can any CLS /CLK owner confirm if this system actually works ! As there are no car kit holders to make my phone Sony P900I , fit cradle etc & had to use two phones in the CLK [Transferring calls]

In a British Auto Express magazine this week , they said all new mercs had the Bluetooth gismos fitted ??

Any idea how long it will be before there will be a cradle or facility in car for a Sony P900/P900i phone ? Fed up transferring calls to the antique phone in current cradle [Nokia 6310i]

I am not correct in thinking that the connections of all Sony phones are the same /the charge facility etc ?

"Two weeks to go " until arrival of CLS, excited is an understatement !

Spoke to dealer on Bluetooth, Quote" Bluetooth not working at present problems with quality" my question was specific to CLS so when I collect from factory in the next few weeks I will ask them some searching questions.

To overcome Mercedes/ Nokia partnership.

I use a V3 razor what I have done to overcome the problem is fit Nokia 6310i in car cradle, set the call system on the 6310 to divert unanswered calls to the V3, the V3 has a PAYG Sim on the same provider so the free minutes on 6310 are used although I have a cross network tariff so any PAYG network phone would do I think!

I find this works for me as I always forget to remove phone from arm rest so any calls get transferred to V3, battery life is great so no problem, I keep £10.00 call charge in unit so Sim remains active and not removed as unused from network by provider.

You were able get from Vodaphone a dual(multi) Sim contract which provides 2 Sim cards this allows you to tap in a code into one handset and transfer active phone (outgoing calls) from one to other handset both are active incoming calls but only one is active at a time for outgoing calling however it was not available as a cross network tariff. Everybody is on different networks so cross network I find is better for me.

This has not been publicised or pushed by Vodaphone.

May not answer your question but its an alternative solution.

Thanks for the info on Bluetooth , I somehow thought there would be unrealiability problems with this modification ! Since found out my MB dealer carried out the extra work as one of there tech's is abit of a whizz kid !

I to have a similar set up at present , transfer calls to number - nokia 6310i in cradle ,because we have over 40 phones through work , I wangled a £7.99 per month deal for the in car phone ! Do you not think the 6310i is a bit antiquated ? [9 days to go until arrival of my soon to be pride & joy]

The Bluetooth works perfectly with the correct products. Secondary phone handset and also the personal privacy earpiece. It has nothing to do with the phone in the cradle or other phones not in the cradle other than it relies on a UHI phone cradle and phone being present. I dont know about MHI systems since they are not used in the ROW.

The faulty Bluetooth is urban myth. It is totally compatible with personal accessories and not phones.

Apart from the privacy earpiece, would you be able to list out which other products work on the bluetooth?

What do you mean by " secondary phone handset"?

There is a phone handset (fancy earpiece) with a keypad and LCD to scroll the phonebook. Sunman has it working in his car.

It is usually sold in the W220 where the rear armrest contains this "phone"

SEPT 2005 CLS 320CDI,
Found another thread on Bluetooth and it appears that a Modification or Kit will be available next year for bluetooth and direct phone compatibility, so took the plunge and asked MB customer services:-

Question
Due to the increasing technology steps in communication will Mercedes be offering a Bluetooth solution which solves the obsolete equipment solutions currently offered on new cars, which although the solution offers an integrated solution it is at some 300+% premium and obsolete?

Mercedes internal information Quote

Rest of World: Bluetooth or full function cradle Cradles supporting the Bluetooth SIM Access Profile (SAP) will be introduced early next year. At present UHI supports only the Bluetooth headset profile, for privacy. Bluetooth SAP switches the phones' antenna off when inside the car using the external antenna instead. Thus increasing the phones' battery life.

August 2005

Do you have any outline timescales for this new product?

Responce

Thank you for contacting the DaimlerChrysler Customer Assistance Center, where by you would like to know if Bluetooth is compatible with Mercedes-Benz Vehicle.

We have been in contact with our Technical Specialists who have advised us that Bluetooth fixed phone option is currently not available for the UK market and we have no indication when or if we are going to have this option added at this moment in time.

Should you have any further requirements, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Yours sincerely etc.

So not a Yes or a No just a do not know, yet elsewhere in the world an implementation strategy is being discussed just where is not the UK, yet it is according to Guide on Factory tour 3rd biggest market for Mercedes Cars.

How strange....
