Since the CLS is pretty much based on the E class you might see the same problems arise. As far as my CLS, only had one electrical problem: the two steering wheel sensors that break and give ESP Malfunction errors. So far after 6k miles no other problems, knock on high gloss laurel wood.

Hi Simon,
Like RedBud, I have only had the ESP Malfunction error which was due to a bad sensor. I gather this is a common problem based on the number of postings on this one matter. Everything else has been a DREAM. It's my sixth benz in 10 years and is by far my favorite. FYI - My last Benz was an E-class (first model year - 2003) and like your CLK430, it had more than the usual share of problems. I dumped it at a loss. But Mercedes is coming back up in the polls (ref latest JD Edwards quality survey) and with the new CEO on-board, I see brighter days ahead.

In having experienced both, what “things” do you like better about the CLS over the E (beside the obvious - reliability, etc.)? And why did you choose the CLS over another E?

I'd start with the interior. MUCH better that the E500 I had. No more bubble nose vents on the center dash, stiched leather (very nice), center console in the rear (versus bench seat) and higher window sills. Next, the handling is different than the E; Finally, on the outside, well, isn't it obvious
It gets the looks everywhere I go - even in LA.
