I would say the CLS the airmatic suspension is a good thing to have. I don't know if the E has this option if it does get it. The CLS for a heavy car can handle pretty well with this setup.

The CLS has, according to MB, a 40% stiffer chassis than the E class. Also the CLS has a shorter steering ratio which makes it feel tighter.
Both handle very well for such a heavy car.
