Important Question

I am considering getting a '07 CLS 550, and it is all really depending on 1 question/answer.

I know that MBs have had a pretty bad track record over the past few years...and I wanna know, does the CLS 550 fall into this category, or is it a well built car.

I mean, the car is amazing and looks *wow*, but I don't want to have to bring it in to fix something all the time...I'm sure you all know what I mean.

So what I ask is, for people that own a CLS 550 or even a CLS 500, to reply and tell me what problems, if any, they have had and if they were covered by the warranty, etc. Also, if anyone has a link saying that the CLS 550 is a very reputable and well-built car, that would be greatly appreciated.

No amount of replies is too many, and THANKS for all your guys' help.

My US Version CLS500 (May 2005 production) had an ESP light (bad steering wheel angle sensor), a check engine light (replaced something at one dealer, solved by tanother dealer), and harsh 3-2 transmission downshift (installed updated control valve) . All were corrected at no cost other than the time for the 4 trips to the dealer. Since then the car ran flawlessly for 4,000 miles until I sold it.
I pick up my CLS550 at the factory 12 October.
Mercedes is no Lexus in quality but I'm still buying the car for its styling.. no slab-sided overblown Camry for me!
Let the rants begin... FYI my wife's 2003 CLK320 has had ZERO problems

Have had absolutely NO problems – rock solid build, quality interior, comfortable, silent and the transmission is fine; 1 year, almost 12000 miles.

CLS550 ... not one issue. Rock solid. All bugs of CLS500's appear to be worked out.

No problem with my 550

Car is almost a week old with 250 miles. I am really impressed with the build quality, Mercedes has came a long way in recent years. Every new vehicle I bought from them has improved in quality. The CLS 550 is beautiful!!

I picked up my 2007 CLS550 in Stuttgart for Euro Delivery, and spent the next 10 days driving about 2000 miles, much of it well in excess of 100mph, and a lot of it up close to the governer of 130mph. The car never hiccupped, skipped a beat, or had one issue at all with anything. It was perfect out the gate under fairly demanding conditions, and I look forward to it arriving this week here in the US. On top of that, I am frankly shocked at how good Mercedes has gotten with their quality, design, and build. This car is far superior to the 2002 S430 I had for awhile.
