DTB P-B-82.85/437 FEB05 Erroneously changing background, keyboard functions in vehicles equipped with COMAND head unit. Repair IS NOT covered under warranty.
- Color scheme is incorrect for the model
- Head unit background images at start time do not match the correct image for the specific model
- Hard keys and soft keys not functioning correctly in all modes
If this procedure does not recover correct functionality and operation of the head unit, the head unit must be replaced:
2005 171.456, 2006 171.454/473, 2004 and later 211.026/065/070/076/082/083/265/282/283, 2006 211.056/087/256/287, and 2006 219.375/376
Turn ignition on and power on the head unit
Press and hold the key combination 5+3+7 in this sequence for about 8 seconds to access the variants menu
Scroll up or down and select correct head unit variant for the subject vehicle, press OK to confirm
Press the “Keybrd” soft key for the list of possible keyboard types
Scroll up or down and select the correct head unit Keyboard for the subject vehicle, press OK to confirm
Upon correcting the variant and keyboard settings, turn ignition off and ensure MOST and CAN asleep
Turn ignition on and check functionality of all keys on the head unit using different applications
Simply, if for any reason you experience any problems with a new setting and cannot revert back to the original setting by using the posted procedure you will need to have either an independent shop, the dealer, or an experienced person attempt to repair it at cost and if it is decided it cannot be reset the head unit will need to be replaced at cost. As stipulated repair and/or replacement is not covered by warranty. The majority of those who attempted this may have been successful with no adverse affects however, just wanted to forewarn everyone.
BTW this modification has been circulating since 2005.
But if you are still want to know, do the search on "3-5-7".
