CLS 550 or CLS AMG?

CLS 550 or CLS AMG?
I guess the obvious answer to this question is "AMG if you can afford it".
What I'm interested in is this:
1. Is there anyone who test drove the 550 and AMG, and could afford either, then chose the 550 and can honestly say they don't regret their choice?
2. Is there anyone who has moved down from the AMG (55 or 63) to the 550 and is perfectly happy with the performance they get from the 550?
I'm trying to get some ideas to help me with my own buying decision. I feel the AMG's power is more than I need (I drive a BMW M3 convertible at the moment), but on the other hand I don't want to get the 550 then feel, three months after purchase, that I should have got the AMG.
I have test driven both cars: the 550 seemed plenty powerful, and the AMG seemed even a bit too powerful for the traffic jam where I live (south London); however, I'm aware that a test drive is not the same as living with a car, which is why I'd like to hear from any people who've been in my position.

If you can afford either one, you will not be regret the AMG. It seems you chose a M over a regular 3 series, the same goes for AMG or not, once you have the power brakes, and other extras, its tough to go back.
