Nav LCD damaged

Not sure if anybody is interested but ... Few months ago I posted here that I cleaned my LCD with windex (no amonia). The LCD lost on a big part of the surface the antiglare laminate and when switched off looks bad, it looks white in the middle like it would have tones of scratcehs. When working is not too bad but still visible big time. So, I went for my first service and the dealer claims I damaged it, is not covered by the warranty. Now the thing is that in the manual it doesn't say anything how to clean it or not clean it! I checked before cleaning. It tells you how to clean the lether, the dash, the exost pipes etc .. but NOTHING about the LCD. So... I hope nobody else will do this...

cheers!

Sounds like it . But I am waiting to find out if the new 2009 can work in the older CLS. If yes then that's an incentive

Yea, I would be really interested to find out if it will work with older models as well. Keep me updated.

May be is the cloth you used and not the windex? I used micro fiber and windex to clean it and it seems ok.

sorry to hear about that... with most (if not all) LCD screens you need to use an acid cleaning compound.

windex, which u used, is unfortunately a base (low acidity). for some reason that damages the antiglare coating on these things.

a good mild acidic cleaner i like to use (believe it or not) is just plain old vinegar (apple cider vinegar is what i use to be exact). its mild, and all natural. your car smells funky for a hot second, but it does a pretty good job on most smudges and fingerprints. i use is on my laptop and desktops LCD's as well.

PS... if you're looking to do the Euro-Comand swap, i have one for sale in the classifieds section, as well as some other goodies (its listed as w211 but they're the same part). its about a 10 minute swap, if the screens bothering you that bad.

Understood. For now is not bothering me that much to do the swap. Maybe if the new command fits would make me swap. In the mean time I wanna talk to MB USA since the book doesn't say anything about how to NOT clean the screen. Maybe they'll figure to update the manual and swap my unit. It can be fixed for sure.. For a 100 I can have it recoated but I need to uninstall, ship it etc etc.
