I drove mine during the winter last year and it did pretty well in the snow with the tires that it had on there. I can imagine it would do a lot better with winter tires though.

The sporty winter tire for powerful medium and luxury-class cars:
As a sports tire for winter use, the ContiWinterContactTM TS 810 Sport combines superb handling with good wet grip and safe driving characteristics on wintry roads. Stiff shoulder blocks deliver outstanding cornering stability. Its band-shaped tread structure in the center zone, similar to that of summer tires, ensures shortest braking distances on dry roads. Thicker sipes with their sipe spacers on the inside of the tire keep the sipes open when they pass through the ground contact area. This makes the sipe fill up with more snow and boosts the amount of extra grip on wintry roads. 255/40/18 with wheels...I'll send you pick of wheels soon as possible.

Hey guys,
I have a 2006 Lexus GS300 AWD and I am planning on getting a CLS next late-spring. I am also concern for winter driver especially in Michigan. My mom has an ML350 and it does amazing in the winter, and I have fallen in love with the handling of the ML and the other Mercedes cars. Nice heavy feel and bank vault handling. I know I will have to get winter tires, but even with the best tires, can the CLS handle turns without any big fish tailing or getting stuck on let say a 30 degree angle driveway with 5-6 inch of snow??? Thats my concern.

A lot of CLS500/550 owners in my area drive theirs through the winter. And winter can really be harsh here. It's all about having a good set of tires and enough ground clearance. I've been driving my E500 all season with no problems. It performs quite well.

Wow, you got some miles on it. I have 32,000 on mines. Lease is up next late spring. I had many issues with the car, but I love it so much. So clean looking, comfty ride, etc. I have 18 inchers on them with tints, and the car looks great. I had a rear trunk door malfunction, dash rattle, bluetooth failure, 2 wheel bearing failures, and they are all fixed fantastically by my Lexus Dealer. I am ready for a more sporty and heavy car like the CLS. I just can't get myself ready for changing tires twice a year and driving in the snow without the awd.

My brother has a 2007 cls550. Lives in Minnesota. Even though he has 4 studded snows put on the car in winter, he takes his wife's RX350 when the weather gets bad. Something to do with the laws of physics.

get aset of winter tires and rims
I got a set of 4 rims and tires from Discounttire. I got the AMG replica, with TPMS and Dunlop Sport M3 tires for a dman good price. About 1300 all! I looked now, the rims, the 2 spoke AMG replica (by the way al 18inch same size back and front) are 145 each, the TPMS is about 60 ... and I had no problems the entire winter.
It's a good investment and the car looks good! If you go in deep snow just raise the car...
