Interior Rattle Cannot Find Source, Does Anyone Have The Same Problem?

I have a 2009 CLS 550 and plan on taking to dealer soon to help identify a new rattle sound that I cannot identify its source. I was hoping someone has had the same problem and can assist.

It happens on the freeway, but not all the time. It occurs at different speeds from 60-80 mph and it sounds like it is coming from behind the infotainment center behind the AC vents. It is a slight subtle rattle. It sort of sound like a loose clip bouncing back and fourth. It does not happen on very bumpy roads just freeways with the slight up down uneven concrete.

I hope my description helps. One other note, this only started after my dealer replaced the tele-aid control module due to a recall. I do not know the location of the tele-aid control module but thought maybe in the process of replacing the part they might of unclipped something and did not clip back.

Any thoughts?

I had a rattle, sort of metallic sounding, and I could have sworn it was coming from behind the vents. But one day my radar detector went off and when I went to silence it at the cigarette lighter plug, I noticed that my ash tray was loose. When I put my finger on the ash tray, the sound went away.

Hope yours is the same thing; easy fix.

MBsd, I get similar rattles but I have no clue where it's coming from. It's somewhere near the front center/passenger side... The rattle comes and goes. On a somewhat bumpy road, I don't hear it but if it's lightly bumpy it rattles lightly.

I started noticing it after I detailed my car....

+1 I have the same problem. Can't believe the number of squeaks and rattles this car has...very disappointed in MB quality.

You mean you can't believe the number of squeaks and rattles YOUR car has? Because mine doesn't make a sound, it's solid.

Noise may be a coincidence since the TeleAid module is located in trunk. MB covers wheel balancing for the first 12 months/12000 miles whichever comes first if within this period speak with the shop foreman request they “road force” balance http://www.hunter.com/pub/product/balancer/index.htm all four tires/wheels then road test the vehicle to identify noise. Upon pick up allot adequate time to road test the vehicle with a tech or the shop foreman to confirm the noise is repaired.

Just got a rattle after 8k miles and it was the ashtray cover. Dealer took care of it and the whole interior is whisper quiet now.

MY MOM HAS 08 CLS 550, AND FOR SOME REASON ON THE HIGHWAY FROM 40- 100 MPH JUST ONE VENT ... THE ONE ONTOP OF THE LIGHT SWITCH TOGGLE SECTION ON DRIVERS SIDE SOUNDS LIKE A LITTLE MOUSE IS IN THERE...

SQUEEKS THE MOST ANNOYING, OBNOXIOUS NOISE IN THE WORLD

THE CAR HAS ONLY 12000 MI ON IT, I DONT KNOW WHAT THIS NOISE CAN BE ...

WHEN ITS MAKING THE NOISE- I SOMETIMES WEDGE MY FINGER IN BETWEEN THE TWO PLASTIC PIECES OF THE VENT, AND THE NOISE TEMPORARILY STOPS.... SO IT MUST BE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE ACTUAL PLASTIC VENT BEING LOSE

MY MOMS CAR GOES BACK IN JANRUARY SO I AM NOT TOO WORRIED ABOUT IT

WE ARE REPLACING THE CAR WITH THE NEW E CLASS.

My 07 CLS550 has the same two issues. The ashtray rattles and the vent closest to the driver's door squeeks. The squeek only happens in colder weather.

Simple resolve, request wheel balance and replacement of instrument panel center nozzle under warranty. Furthermore, no need to yell especially since “you are not too worried about it”.

Request replacement of the instrument panel left nozzle (part #2198300154)) and astray housing (2116800650) under warranty. If there is a noticeable uneven gap between ashtray door and panel mention DTB P-B-68.20/72.

Thanks!

Edit: Unfortunately, I don't think my car is under warranty for these items any longer.
