Could You Hold to 70mph On This 17 Mile Stretch?

I thought you'd enjoy seeing this photo of a VERY long straight on the Extraterrestrial Highway (Rt 375) in near-by Nevada, near Rachel, NV and Area 51. Ah temptation -- I will not admit to have tested the speed limiter on my SLK55 AMG.

You can understand my concern for the CLS's limited-use spare tire out here and why I have installed a full sized spare wheel and tire.

Heck no...I was on the 495 in DC and that is a race track, I can easily exceed the speed limit just to keep up with the pace. I am not a racer or anything like that but, will not get passed by a SMART.

with great fury.
No, and thankfully it's not a big deal to do 180 mph on that stretch because of its isolation and lack of "supervision". I wish we had that around here. If I tried, I couldn't even get to 100 mph on these congested highways...

Top gear did a segment on that road last year

They took a ZR01 Corvette, a Caddy CTS-V and a Charger (which they had to buy because Chrysler thought they'd just slag the car to death). They started out in SFO and then drove to Reno and then through this road and then on to Bonneville Salt flats for some real speed runs. It was a very entertaining segment. James May managed to ditch the Caddy as he was trying to lay some 11's (peel rubber) and lost control of the car. I have no doubt they were testing the limits of the cars on that road but they got the Vette over 176 Mph over a mile on Bonneville. That looked like a road trip from Manna. I'd love to take my CLS on it.
