2012 CLS vs. 2011 CLS

Is there a reason to wait for 2012 CLS, when you can get much better deal on 2011 model? And according to this article: 2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class model changes! 2011 CLS looks like much better value...

Also, this article raises some qusetions about the new electromechanical steering!

Any advice?

I have seen a couple reviews of the 2012 CLS and the main thing that they always say is how "Amazing" the new steering is. The article raises questions but the writer hasn’t driven the car. My advice to you would be to only read reviews from drive tests, not speculation.

If you had to choose between getting a new 2011 CLS versus a 2012 CLS, even considering getting the 2011 is not very smart (unless the dealer is giving it away).

First of all, the 2012 CLS MSRP will be less than that of the 2011 CLS. MB did the same when they launched the W212 E-Class. I had a W211 and now own a W212. The W212 is a much better car in every way AND it is less expensive than its predecesor -- imagine that!

Evidently, MB has become more productive in their engineering and manufacturing. The 2012 CLS will be less expensive than the 2011 and, as with the E-class, it will be a much better car. Furthermore, the 2011 is the last year of the model, while the 2012 is the first year model. That alone will make for higher resale value on the 2012. And since the 2012 will debut in the spring, 5 months gets you one whole year in retail value.

It's a no-brainer!

I think auto week just wrote that next gen cls mb wants to go further upscale and have prices HIGHER than current- if so, dont expect it to copy w212 pricing vs prior gen.

I like how the new car looks considering I own the current model (which I think is beautiful)

It is a step in the right direction in tune with the design language. Having seen the order guide, I think this car will set itself apart from the current e-class significantly. Atleast in the interior department. While the interior of the E has gone down the CLS is going up significantly.

I predict a 1-2% price increase

Premium1
Driver assistance
Sport +1 (Sport pkg gives grey cross stitching on the leather inside)
Parktronic
Split rear seats
Side rear bags
Driver Multicontour ( passenger not available for US....really bizzare)
Premium leather
Heated rear seats

I predict 92K before Tax. (In the current form with these options, the car would have been 86-87K)

Also, I was told today, that new 2012 CLS engine will have direct injection, which will create a lot more noise level, compare to current 2011 CLS. Mercedes wants to go greener, so they sacrifice louder acceleration to a better fuel economy...

Car and Driver reviews the new (2012) CLS in the December issue. I agree with them that the new model isn't as pretty as the first one, at least in standard form. It does looks somewhat better in CL63 trim however.

I much prefer my 2006 CL55 to anything MB has come out with since then, and if I just had to have 4-doors, then I look for a 2006 S55 rather than any year of the CLS. Once you have a experienced a CL or S-Class, you don't want to drive anything less.

You can lease a loaded '11 for $700 a month with no money down. I assume the '12 lease will be much higher.

Do you have any details to this (dealer information etc.?) I live in N california and looks like the best deal is around 1K a month.. the $700 number that you quote require dealer to discount about 15K to 16K or so... I don't see that unless MB has some trunk money on this car...

I had 2 dealers in Tampa Bay ready to do this deal end of last month so I did the deal with one. Unfortunately deal is up to $799 -http://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/special_offers/current. It may be harder now to negociate the $3,995 capitalized cost reduction to 0. There was $3500 from MB and $1000 off for being a Lexus owner. Sale price was $68477. List $814125.

The reason why the E-class is ~$5000 less expensive is not because of better "Engineering" its because ~$5000 worth of standard and available options were removed from the E. I hope they dont do the same with the CLS.
