Final verdict on 245/35/20 tires

I recently purchased a set of wheels/tire package for my CLS500. I don't like the feel of the drive with the current set up front which is 245/30/20. I want to have more protection for my wheels and hopefully have a smoother ride.

I would like to put 245/35/20 up front, but after researching the forum half of the responses say NO, it's going to hit the suspension bolt on top. The other half said they use the set up with no issues. I know it's about an inch taller than stock.

Is there any other issues other than it may hit the suspension bolt on top? I would like to hear from people that are running that tire size or have experience with the 245/35/20 set up front.

If there other suggestions I would like to hear them as well. I'm happy with the set up on the back which is 285/30/20.

Only MBs - the best or nothing
With stock height, and front offset of 25mm or lower (20mm or lower would be ideal), 245/35-20 tires will ovoid that bolt.

Damn! This is the exact same problem I had. I went over to Butler Tire in GA, a high performance shop, and they actually recommended going with a 245/35/20 in the front and 285/30/20 rears for a better ride. Unfortunately, I had two cracked rims before I went to them..ughhh.

Anyway, the manager and they guys said a 35 series in the front would clear with no problem. He showed me pictures, take a look on their website.

lowered 2 inched

BigBen320e, is that the set up you have? If so, please send a pic of your car. The pic above is exactly what I would like to see with my car. I just don't want any problems. When I went to America's tires, they don't recommend oversize tires that do not meet orignal factory spec.

I'm lowered 2 inches and don't know the offset of the wheels. I did see the suspension bolt on top and it would be a close fit.

My question is even with an offset of what is recommended wouldn't it still hit the tires? The suspension bolt is right in the middle of the tires.

That extra inch would really help the ride in my opinion.

No lowering on mine at all. I would ask a performance shop that deals with Benz's and those sizes. Feel free to call Butler Tire and ask them, I know they are not local..or call a shop near you. Lowering changes things...

I am currently running 245-35-20 in my front wheels and my car is lowered with 2 finger gap in between the tires and wheels. I have no rubbing issue at all. I was going to try 255-35-20 next time in the front but I am getting mixed answers. I PM'ed one person here in the forum who is running 255-35-20 on the front with his car dropped and he said he has no rubbing issues at all. I'll wait until my 245 wears out and try the 255-35-20. I want as much rubber protection for my wheels since I live in great LA area with lots of bumps and pot holes.
