Replacing fogs w/ LED strips - thoughts? (pics inside)

Fellas-

I am in the process of updating to a AMG bumper, and I'm thinking about doing this mod. I like the look on the newer Benzes, but how does this look sit with our rides? I got these from the guys over at AZN Optics - they make the custom filler piece and add the LED bar. Price is just over $300.

All feedback is appreciated.

That looks pretty amazing. I would definitely do that to my car. I do have one question though.

Functionally speaking, will the LED's provide the same light coverage as the standard fog lights?

I was curious about that too. I'd have to think that although they will offer some light, I don't expect them to be anywhere near stock fogs. I guess I'd be doing this more for form rather than function.

I've done this mode to my cls. Except I used a amg center grill and hand made the fillers for the leds then i smoked them black with clear so you can't see them when it is off. It looks good the only problem is the car is too smart and I get a light indicator. Ps the cls only sends 3 volts the the fog lamps so if there is a ballast you will have to pull 12v from somewhere else

I think keep the fogs and do the LED's smaller near the inner portion of the fog light vent at an angle. Fell in love with this after I saw the AKA Motorsports G500 body kit it has the LED's in that shape ... let me try to find a picture online.

Ok, found some place selling the actual truck LOL ... check out the pictures showing the front bumper to see what I'm trying to explain. Looks more factory OEM IMO

Sweet! reminds me a little of the Panamera. I like your blacked out headlight housing.

They're on the board - just lookup AZN Optics....

I wonder if we can setup a group buy! :-D

I'm also curious if they can do a wider LED, I think the 5 lights are too little. I'd like to see 6 or 7 like the current versions. I'd also like to see it with the L shaped LED

Have you thought about just changing the bulb out to a Cree LED? they are significantly brighter than any of the led strips and only need one.

They come in many different sizes, I’ve replaced them on my Prius both driving 7440’s and fogs h11’s. If you do this you will need to change out the relay or you will get error codes. I think it would look good in the stock Fog Housing, however don’t expect any light output, LED’s are just for being seen, not to see.

The only other challenge is to get the headlights to match. One thing leads to another…

LED

WOW , at least someone is working on this , I hope some vendor either comes out with a LED that fits between our fog lights and the space between mesh and bump or a new front bumper with fogs and LED'S or without fogs and OEM looking ,,, they would definitely have my money... I 'v been trying to find a way to do this ,,, but don't want to waste a lot time buying stuff and trying to make it work.

LED strip update!

Here is a link to an ebay vendor who sells both the led strips with or without fog lamps. They L shape LED strips found on the new E-class look more OEM. I don't know if these LED strips will match up with my xenon headlamps which have a feeble 4300K light output.

The new led strips have more light output (crispy white) in my opinion and my xenon lights might not compliment it that good. If my car is coming from afar with the lights on, people might notice that it is an aftermarket stuff because of the light output difference and that is no good for a prestigious car like the CLS.

If anyone tries them on and likes them, don't hesitate to post back your positive feedback so that we in turn can take the plunge.

They look real good....I like them
are you using them as DRL's or fogs? and did you have a seperate switch put in to turn on/off...or did you use the foglight plug?

I haven't bought them yet. The vendor supplies a special module with the LED strips for the fog light conversion. The module tricks the on-borad computer into believing everything is still in working order.

I believe the lights could be controlled via the light switch. The vendor states that after purchase, you should precise the LED strips wanted. You could either go for the L shape which serves as foglight or you could go for the LED strips that compliment the already existing fog lamps. Those could be used for day DRL's.

I don't get this, if it only sends 3V to the lamps how come the standard H11 12V 55W bulbs work as normal?

+1 ...

i think it's 12V and not 3V ...

Many members fit some HID H11 instead of Hallogen's OEM bulbs...

HID's work at 12V not 3v.

I know some aftermakets Led's exist for W204, with housing and grill to keep the OEM fog lights.

Like this...

Regards,
Frenchy.

A 7-light LED would be a lot nicer, more of a factory look. I've been waiting to do something like that since I don't really turn on my fogs. That's the perfect spot to put LEDs in my opinion, anywhere else would just look fugly.
