2006 CLS350 - Rear Differential Assembly gone bad

Hi All,

I need your expertise and advice.

A friend of mine purchased a 2006 CLS350 from the local official dealer in the UAE a few weeks ago.

The car has original 31,000 miles with a complete service record.

My friend started to hear a whining noise from the rear and sent it back to them for inspection.

Now the dealer workshop says the Rear Assembly needs to be replaced.

Question: Can the rear assemble go bad at such low miles? They have quoted USD 6,500 to repair it! Can he drive the car or you think it will cause further damage?
