CLS 500 DIY Oil & Filter change
I want to change the oil, oil filter, and air filters on my CLS 500 myself. I checked some of the older posts, however they seem to contradict one another. There was a post that said that there wasn't a drain plug at all, and the oil had to be vaccumed out. I checked another and it was said that there were two drain plugs. Does anyone know for sure?
Also, I need to know how many quarts of oil to add after the change if it is a DIY project, and the best oil to replace it with. The owners manual doesn't give me anything on this.
Someone was talking about AMSOIL, and how good it is. I wanted to ask before going that route. If anyone has any info, let me know.
Thinking of going with the K&N air filters, but I need to know how to remove the engine cover to get to them. If anyone can help, I certainly would appreciate it.

The CLS 500 takes eight quarts of oil for a oil and filter change. I use Mobil 1 5w 40. It's a full synthetic. There is one drain plug but you have to remove the under pan to see it. That's why if you take it to a dealer he will just suck all the old oil out through the dipstick. You can purchase a dipstick like the ones the dealer uses to check the quantity of oil. To replace the air filters, you pull up on the front engine cover then pull up on the big part that is left. The big cover is held on by clips that grab little rubber mounts and pulls right off. Turn the big cover over and you will see where the two filters are. Each one is held in by four #25 Torx screws . Remove the screws and replace tha filters.

How about dipstick...

Thanks but the 2008 CLS doesn't have a dip stick. It has a small thing that pulls out that is 1" long only...
see here, strange, but there is no dipstick:
http://www.justanswer.com/mercedes/7...oil-level.html - and I can't get to the screen they are talking about in the display.

Mightyvac is worth the money for changing oil on German cars with top mounted filters. Lets you do the whole job from the top, and saves a lot of headaches.
