Anyone running 12mm HR spacers up front? Need some help

Need to push my wheels out a little further so I can get the center caps on. The dust cap protrudes out too far and the center caps only go on about half way. I already have 5mm spacers on the front and tried ordering the 10mm HR spacers but they came with the built in dust caps which didn't help my situation. Wondering if the 12mm H&R spacers also have the built in grease caps (which I do not want!). Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Well, just found answer to my own question. The 12mm front spacers do come with built in grease cap. Guess I'll need to look for another brand. Any other ideas to get these center caps on. I'd prefer not to change my setup right now as I'm getting no wheel vibrations with the 5mm that are already on.

Remove the dust caps. The cap on the wheel will act as it.

Hmmmmm. I thought dust caps were essential. Pretty sure we need them to keep water, grime etc out of the bearings. I dont think the center cap would do a good job of keeping it sealed?

It wouldn't be a problem if you sealed the cap on the wheel.

However you have two options. I had the same issue on HREs and the dust cap broke the tabs on the center cap. I beat the dust cap with a hammer for an hour to reshape it.

I read afterwards where others simple shaved down the opposite end of the dust cap so it seats in further in the hub. There is quite a bit of room there.

Personally I wouldn't be spacing out the wheel to get around the dust cap. I would fix the dust cap one of these ways.

I think your right. I'm not a huge fan of spacers but had to put the 5mm up front in order to achieve the proper stance. I don't want to go any further if I don't need to. I will try to shave off 5mm off the back side of the dust cap and see if that does it. Hopefully there is enough room behind there and it doesn't rub the internal components in the hub. Thanks for your input.

Oh...one more thing. On my HRE's the dust cap was not hitting the back of the wheel cap...it actually was too fat and hitting the ears on the wheel cap. I had to reshape it to make it skinny along with not making it longer. Took a long time but it worked. I wish that I would have shaved off the back side but didn't hear about that until i was done.

Thanks. I thought that was initially the problem and I could just shave the edges of the center cap but as you can see the grease cap comes all the way out near the face of the wheel. Do you recall how much space was behind that grease cap? I need about 5mm to get these center caps on. Thanks.

So funny because I went through the exact same thing. I went as far as removing the dust cap and putting putty on the bearing nut and installing the wheel to get the distance behind the cap. Then did same between nut and dust cap. Then same between dust cap and wheel cap.

Once you have these measurements for your situation you will know what to do.

Haha. I may just beat the crap out of the dust cap like you. If I knew I could hammer it in 5mm without it hitting the bearing nut, I'd go for it! In fact I could even dremel out some of the back side of the center cap so I wouldn't even need 5mm.

others have done the dust cap shaving on the CLS? or was that on other vehicles?

I'm running a 10mm spacer on the front to get my center caps to fit over those dust caps, for next season I want to correct the problem properly

I got a set of hubcentric machined aluminum spacers, +10mm...no dust cap...a friend at a shop sourced them for me. I have not had any issues with vibrations and the added benefit is that my 20s sit really flush in the front when the car is slammed

^^^How long have you been driving without the dust caps? And why do you only remove them for summers? I've been looking for flat ones but can't find them anywhere. Please post a link if you have one. Thanks.

FYI. I got around to getting the center caps on the front. Shaving the back side of the dust cap won't work because it doesn't help with pushing it in any further. I ended up just tapping it with a hammer. There's about 5mm of space behind the dust cap and the bearing spindle. Problem I came across is once u flatten the cap the edges go out a bit and the sides of the center cap were now hitting. I just thinned out the edges of the center cap with a dremel and popped on the center cap.
