Brake nightmare!

My car has been squealing like a banshee for close to 2 months now... took it to the mechanic had him throw on rear rotors as there was a bit of a lip on it and that's what the mechanic said was the issue. I drove out the shop and notice the same squeal, prominent as ever... rolled my windows down and it appears to be coming from the front of the car. I took it back and had the guy look at it and hes basically telling me he has no idea what the issue is. Prior to this, the pads and front rotors were replaced around november of last year. There are burn in lines on the rotor that I am being told is due to many different reasons... living on a hill, making a few emergency stops, and the last which really seemed ridiculous was going to a car wash while the brakes were hot. I am also being told that this sort of issue is not covered under the brake/rotor warranty (these are supposedly genuine mercedes parts). Today I took it in and he said it needed a light resurface.. against my better judgement I let him do this and of course the noise is still there. Aside from coming back tomorrow with a baseball bat and demanding he give me new rotors and pads I'm not really sure what to do here. It's a guy who has serviced 3 other of my mercedes over 4 years and up until this happened seemed like a straight guy. Is there any truth to any of what this guy is saying? None of my other benzes had/have this issue had an s550 rotors and pads changed no squeal, had an e320 pads changed and squeal went away. Now his next idea is that I need softer brake pads even though he raves about using mercedes everything all day and night. Is 9 months a good amount of time before front brakes and rotors start to squeal?

Did you replace the Rotors & pads with OEM's, in last November..?,

if you have a deep lines in the Rotors, means can't resurface them, squealing will NOT goes away, it's waste of $$$ & time..!!

Yes oem rotors with pads were replaced last november did about 9k miles in that time. He resurfaced the front rotors and it did absolutely nothing.

Your Front Rotors are (330x32), i don't think "9" months is enough age for OEM's..!,

assuming something wrong with Rotors or pads..!

prefer, if you can pull them out, to make sure positively, if they're OEM's or not..!!

*In the Rotor; you will find OEM par# engraved in it (on the vent line), see attached closely,,

Brake nightmare!-mb-rotor-part-engraved.jpg

*In the pad; MB has contract with only "3" companies as genuine's, (Brembo/Jurid/Textar), you can find the part# of any of those engraved in the pad.

Well took the brakes to two mechanics one is a guy near my house who didn't charge me anything pulled the rotors and pads off confirmed they are real mercedes parts and put some sort of anti squeal compound on the back of the shims... this seemed to dead the problem somewhat but I'm still getting a squeal from braking and may continue back to what it was if I drive longer. I took it to the mechanic who installed all this stuff and he said he wants me to bring my own pads to him (im assuming so he is not liable for anything in the future)... bottom line the guy can't keep a straight story. I've never in my life spend this long on some break squeal issue and still not had the problem resolved. He had to have known the pads were the issue the entire time. Again 8 months and 7k miles on "genuine" mercedes pads.. is the life I got out of whatever this is maybe i'm being too demanding but all my other brake changes have lasted well beyond this.

I didn't get to see what manufacturer the pads or rotors were, the mech just told me they were mercedes parts.

Yes one of the front pads has a pretty obvious line on it its not really deep but it is a different color from the rest of the pad... the pads are also down to about 20%.

Yeah, that's one of the sign that, pads not OEM, or been used & polished before using it..?!?,

can't say; your mechanic done that, but perhaps he didn't know either, when you bought them..?!?!?

He orders them direct from the dealer.. but from what I hear some dealerships are using cheap parts now too. He's never polished them but he does typically grind the pads down before he puts them on but I see most mechanics do this and he has done it to all my cars... this is the first i've had this issue.

MB got some differ part #s for your pads, depend of the quality & grade of the pads,

"006 420 05 20" or "006 420 16 20" or "007 420 69 20" or
"007 420 73 20",,

*Sorry to make that long;

but these part #s comes as "Brembo/Textar/Jurid",

these companies got a multiple production line & contract for differ grades of pads spec., depend of the material finance & the quantity of the orders,,

that's the one of main reason that, MB and many companies takes the lowest Range & using cheap items for more benefits..!!

Looks great,

i think, if you surface the Rotor & put those nice "ATE" pads, squealing will disappears..

Cool, thanks for the help.. my mech did resurface the rotor and said he will put these on for free so i'll see how this goes. Just curious what do you recommend for rotors on these cars.

Any Time,,

If don't want to go with OEM,,

Prefer to get "ATE/Brembo/TRW/Zimmermann", those are qualified Rotors..

Well you were right.. even though it ended up being the back pads making the noise (not sure how or why the mech assumed front) so now I have all four new brake pads ate. But after getting home from driving squeal free all day i notice significant dripping from the point where I engaged the brake to where I released it to park in front of my house. I'm hoping maybe this is just the piston adjusting to the new pads or something I hope I didn't fix one issue and a new one was created.
