Metal shavings in tranny pan.

Metal shavings in tranny pan.
Tranny fluid in connector.
Magnet with metal sludge.
Ok i took off the tranny pan to my 06 cls and about 5 quarts of super black fluid came out. Symptoms are no movement when shifted into drive or reverse. So, my question is, are these metal shavings in the pic a major concern i.e new transmission concern? Also, the plug also had some tranny fluid in it. What do you guys think?

Fluid on the 13 pin connector is notorious for causing shift problems! Did you spray it down with electrical parts cleaner?
Also did the situation improve when you changed your fluid and filter? How many miles do you have? Have you checked for codes? On my previous car which was a 722.6 transmission, I had a hard shift when I downshifted from 2nd to 1rst. I used a bottle of seafoam transtune and flushed the fluid, and my situation was completely solved. I also had think black sludge on the magnet. My theory is that over time the valves got sticky causing the hard shift. I will be doing a fluid change next month on my class, which has 67k miles..

I just was able to pull evetything apart last night. I haven't sprayed any cleanet in the plug as of yet.. When i got the car it wasn't drivable due to the the transmission. It has 107k original miles. It seem to have sat for a few years reason being (I believe ) is a water issue with the trunk. The codes that popped up were C164, C155, C121, C100, D10B and 0894. These were stored in the transmissiom section.

First thing I would do is study the codes and investigate what others have done.
Then most likely I would clean the connector and do a complete fluid and filter change.
Last I would reset the battery, start her up, and hope for the best!

Your profile is incomplete. If you have a CLS 500 it’s a 722.9, totally different trans than the 722.6. CLS 500 has 722.9. The CLS 55 uses a 722.6 because the 722.9 can’t handle the torque. You need to consider a full rebuild if the trans is as you describe. A 722.6 is pretty much bullet proof and the 722.9 was loaded with problems for the first year or so after it’s use that’s why AMG didn’t put it in their vehicles.
