Stupid headlight wire insulation falling off; LED headlights not so good
I drive a 2006 cls500, chassis w219.
This weekend I was experimenting with various headlight bulbs.
Of the several halogens I tried, the Phillips Diamond vision are whitest and brightest.
I also tried some LED headlights, but they are terrible; light pattern is scattered and I just plain can't see well at night (the do look cool though).
While wrestling to get the headlights in and out of the housing, the insulation just fell off!!
I was very surprised this could happen, and then I googled it and it turns out to be common in German cars.
Several people have used liquid insulating tape to cover exposed wires, which I will probably try.
I may even chop off the wires to add rubber insulation and then solder the wires again together, but I hesitate to do this.
Anyone have any other suggestions?
I have to say that i am very disappointed with Mercedes; of anything that should stay in tact should be wiring insulation..
