Random "ESP inoperative" message

Sometimes, when I start my 06 CLS 320 CDI, I get an "ESP inoperative" message. The car seems to slightly pull on the right when I let go off the steering wheel, and a friend of mine hit a curb with the right wheel some weeks ago.
I think it may be related. I'll get something to pull the codes as soon as Corona leaves us alone, now all the shops are closed :/
I have a second, less important problem but I'd like to address it too: the license plates lights are very unstable and show up as not working on my instrument cluster. It started with only the right one but now both work intermittently.

Thanks for your answer! I'll check this harness tomorrow.
I think I know where the ESP message can come from. The car also takes a lot of cranks to start, thus I suspected injector leaks to have occured. But the time it takes to start coupled with the ESP problems led me to think that the cause to all that is a simple weak battery. It has 230k KM and iirc still has the original battery. I'll check that.

Do you get a clicking when turning the steering wheel? How about your turn signals- do they cancel as designed? If you have both there is a part to replace which is breaking at multiple places which interferes with ESP from time to time.

I get both the clicking and the turn signals cancel, but the ESP inoperative message seems to appear when I turn the wheel all the way. Is it the steering angle sensor? I will soon get an OBD2 code reader.

I've had two MB's of '04 and '05 which had the plastic break and caused the "clicking". It does sound like plastic when the wheel is turned. Both had the turn signals which mostly did not cancel. One had the seemingly random ESP malfunction, one did not. Neither had cruise control failure but that may happen as well. There's a ring around the steering wheel that needs replacing when the wheel is removed. I don't know more than that.
