2009 CLS550 Loss of power

Hi I’m new here and in need of some help. I’ve searched the internet for 2 days and cannot find any solid information. The problem I’m having with my 2009 CLS550 is a sudden loss of power for a split second while driving, all the lights appear on the dash then they go away in a split second and I can feel a sudden torque in the engine/trans as it looses power (symptoms from the first 3 times it happened) and now it happened while sitting in my driveway not even running. I’m confident that it’s complete power loss as the clock has to reset. My first thought is the crankshaft sensor but my question with that is will that cause a loss of power without the key in the ignition or car turned on.

FYI since I’ve owned the car I’ve changed the alternator, did a tuneup (plugs and coils) and had the transmission serviced at the dealership for a “improper gear ratio” sorry I don’t remember the code but the fix was to flush and fill the trans.
