A writer from Autoweek admitted the deed in the Oct 11th issue. After the first rain in a long time, the oil in the asphalt pores rose to the surface and he couldn't handle the curve.

Crashed CLS
This happened when Mercedes presented the car in the area outside of Rome. I know this because I work for a German car magazine and compared the CLS500 to the BMW 645 Ci. You can read my (German) review at: http://www.autobild.de/aktuell/magaz...=automobiltest
It is the article called coupe or not coupe. To sum it up for those who don't speak German: 6 series (did have active steering) tighter and firmer handling with more precise steering, Mercedes CLS steering more firm and precise than on W211 due to tighter ratio, SBC brake also felt less grabby than on the W211, all in all handling good (our test car had 18 inch wheels and was a 500 with Airmatic). CLS far superior in fit and finish, interior space, comfort and amenities, almost no room in the back of the BMW, 6 series choppy harsh ride in comparison due to stiff suspension and run flat tires. Engine power about equal, Mercedes 7 G tronic responsive but takes a bit too long to downshift after leisurely driving, BMW 6 speed automatic transmission stays in low gear too long after a passing maneuver, thinking you want to do sporty driving. Interestingly, the CLS 500 is about 5000 Euros cheaper than the 645Ci in Germany (7000 if you equip the BMW with automatic.) Hope this helps some people trying to decide on whether to get one or not.

... and did the article comment on how the car looks? To my eyes, the only good view of it is the side profile. The front and back views are truly awful. If this is Mercedes future design direction (and the Mayback look-alike back end of the new S Class is bad news too), stop the bus!, I want to get off.
