Impressions after a few months with our 2019 CLS450
My 2 (teenage) daughters and I live in Northern CA and last year we decided to do summer vacation in San Diego as a road trip in the W221.
The drive down there was uneventful (of course we had the usual LA traffic jam).
Nice vacation in an overpriced hotel, but what the heck.
The whole trouble started on the LAST day (which was a Friday) before we had to check out of the hotel and drive back home.
In the morning I noticed that the left rear was loosing air and lo and behold, we caught a nail (the car is/was a nail magnet)
I started to call the nearest tire shops if they can fix a flat and one of them had an opening so I drove there.
I drive there and stop the car to go into their office and now they suddenly had a 3 hour wait time.
OK, let's go somewhere else. But now the car doesn't start anymore. Just like you I looked at all the fuses etc, no go. Several hours of troubleshooting with my mechanic on the phone, but no bueno.
Now it's Friday afternoon and I'm running out of time (we needed to check out/go home the next day).
Eventually I called MB of San Diego, who had - of course - only an appointment in the middle of the following week.
I got the car towed there (but before that I put on the full size spare that I have in the trunk, so that they don't also gauge me for a new tire).
Uber back to the hotel and then I had to buy 3 last minute plane tickets back to San Francisco for the next day.
Early next week I got a call from MB of San Diego that the starter is bad and that they can replace it to the tune of $1,500
I had no choice then to say yes. I flew back the next weekend and picked up the car and drove it home.
And then I made the same decision as you, that the car simply isn't reliable anymore (there was already a long history of all kinds of problems with the ABC suspension) and bought a 2018 Range Rover Velar HSE, which so far is super reliable.
But no more road trips for us, this year we're flying to Cancun...
