Carbon Ceramic Brakes

How many have gone with the CCB option on their AMG GT S? I was planning on getting this option but it will have no use for me because I'm not going to track the car. Also I've read that CCB feel squishy and steel brakes are much better for daily driving or driving on the road. Let me know what you guys think. Would you guys get this option even if your not going to track your car?

For daily driving, i suggest you get the normal brakes.
It also depends on the manufacturer, my aventador has ceramic brakes and they work perfectly even when cold, as of the 458 italia I have, the ceramics are horrible when cold and have that "squishy" feel you're talking about, and a lot of "braking noise"

I ordered my GTS with the normal steel brakes but after taking the car to F1 track here and saw the potential of it, im probably going to get OEM ceramic brakes for her

Yeah, I was going to option them and I don't care about the price, but I don't want to get that squishy feeling and not have them work right when its cold out. CCB have to warm up before they work right. If I ever do plan on tracking the car or start tracking it I can always get CCB later anyways.

I have CCB on my GTS and love the feel, even in the cold.
I pay the premium to never have brake dust.... I have the CCB on my E63 and literally hand wash my wheels once per month.

I will never use steel brakes ever again.

So you telling me that CCB work just as good when they are hot as they do when they are cold? BS CCB don't work as good or to their full potential when its super cold out. I know some people who have had to stomp on the brakes early morning and the CCB's don't bite as hard. CCB are best when warmed up.

Its been -10 celcius in Toronto the last few days, but completely dry. Ive been driving the GTS because I want to get to the break in period. The brakes are SUPER grabby right from the getgo... even annoyingly so.

I have them on my E63 as well, which is our winter car, and again never needs any warming up... hard grabs right from the getgo... Every time!

I totally agree with you. After all you do have the car. I was just saying that this was the case with a different car. I'm still debating whether I want to get them or not. I'm not going to track the car so I feel like the 8k will be a waste. But we will see. You guys think the CCB would be worth it for me since I won't be tracking the car?

The only advantage I can see is that you won't have the brake dust which dirties the wheels.

My GT S had them when I bought it. I find them a bit grabby at times, but I love the lack of brake dust. My S63 wheels look awful two days after a wash; the GT S always looks great.

Well after paying 3000$ for rotors and pads up front on my 63, The cost of the brakes should pay for themselves after 60,000 miles?

Does anyone know what the maintenance costs are on the steel brakes?

Did you mean ceramics? There is no maintenance cost. I've never spent a penny on my E63 set... It's a 2012. I remember reading somewhere that they will last 100,000 miles... Could be more without any track time.

Anybody notice squealing when in cold weather because of the ceramic brakes?

I had squeeling end of summer, and into first month of fall, but it's totally gone away now. A few of my buddies note that their brake noises come and go as well in stages.

I have not heard any noise from the GTS yes, but I've only clocked 300 miles 😂

It is IMHO totally useless. It is only a bragging right for buyers and a marketing hype for manufacturers to make more $$ unless you are a track rat.
Stopping distances on the streets are proven to not be better.
For most of us that even go only a few times on the track per year, it is cheaper to change steel rotors and I know I am not good enough to fully explore the limit of the car with only a few times here and there.
I would rather spend $8K on tunes, wheels and dust free pads than OEM CC brakes.

Well I checked. And it is in fact $4000 for the fronts and rears on the STEEL Rotors and pads every 30,000 miles.

Racingbrake offers CCM rotor replacement upgrade so you can convert to full CCM brake kit by retaining your stock calipers.

Carbon Ceramic Brakes for GT S

This upgrade would allow you to swap between your stock iron and CCM rotors.
