One Solution: If you want a full-size spare

If for whatever reason (race track, remote area travel, etc.) you'd like to occasionally carry a real spare tire and jack and don't want to pay for a MB wheel and tire, here is one solution. Suggest you check the details on these several recent on-going and past threads regarding this issue:

Wheel & Tires: https://mbworld.org/forums/w218/5536...real-tire.html

Jack & Tires: https://mbworld.org/forums/amg-gt-gt...ter-point.html

I first addressed and solved on my CLS63 which came with a 19" AMG space-saver spare but actually had a trunk wheel well large enough in diameter to accommodate a full-size mounted tire. As you may read, I had to use this inflatable spare on I-15 in Utah with an 80 mph speed limit and for over an hour and a half was being passed by trailer trucks going 20-30 mph than I. I believe our TireFit solution limits speed to 50 miles @ 50 mph or so, similar to the CLS63's space saver spare's limits.

I found the following and have confirmed that this wheel will fit and clear suspension and calipers on both the front and rear of my 2016 GT S:

-A $30 jack on eBay, MB part A-211-583-02-15

-Wheel from www.rimsntires.com: Verde Replicas V1174 CL65 Machined/Gray wheels
19x8.5 PCD 5x112 ET35, 6.1"BS $238.77

-Lug Bolts from NAPA: DOR 610-411, conical seat. (610-456 is too long for this wheel & MB original bolts do not have conical seats; they are spherical.)

The tire I have for my CLS63 is from tirerack.com (225/40ZRx19 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3) is a good match in circumference for the front 265/35x19 on the front of the GT S, but is too small to run on the rear due to concerns of destroying the rear differential.

So if you want a 19" spare tire suitable for the rear with a 295/30x20, you would use a 225/45x19. There are several low-cost options (<$150) in this size from tire rack.com. (You could use a 245/40x19 to match the circumference of 285/30x20.) I am assuming that either of these size spare tires which match the circumference of a rear would be OK on the front. There should not be any clearance problems, but the ESP/anti-lock may object to a slight difference in rotational speed of the front tires -- probably not, but I'm not sure.
