Rear Spoiler

Had a chance to run down an airstrip last month and hit 171mph several times. Next month I will running an even longer airstrip. Anyone know how to stop the rear spoiler from deploying at 74 MPH? Fuse maybe? Hoping to hit 180+ and I'm sure that spoiler is costing me several MPH. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Ummm, let it alone to deploy

I would want the downforce at speed, considering the shape of the AMG GTs rear.

Those AMG engineers seem to think its worthwhile.

Fold mirrors and turn spoiler off on overhead switch. Car will be fine.

What distance are you running to get to 170??

Shouldn't be too hard. I hit 155 in a clk55 15 years ago on a straightaway outside Vegas. Would think it would be pretty easy in an AMG GTS to get another 20-25 mph

Thanks for the reply's. I hit 171 running 70% of a mile on an airstrip, I had posted a vid in a previous post if you would like to check it out...fun day :-) AMG17GT...does your spoiler button lower it at higher speeds? Mine sure doesn't, but mine is a 16. It just raises it while parked or below 74 mph. Owners manual says its just to raise for cleaning it. The engineers def know their stuff for the track, however this is a straight line speed run. I don't need the down force, that's why ultra performance cars, have active spoilers and suspensions that lower at higher speeds. Pretty sure I could get close to 200MPH (Its a Renntech R2 package) if I had unlimited room, but that darn airstrip keeps ending! Anyone else know?

Thanks

I think the wing software has to be electronically altered because it goes up and stays up at speed for "safety" reasons. I know guys were looking into this to add aftermarket or Aero Package wings to the cars. I think RennTech may have a solution, but that is probably provided in connection with buying their package. You may want to check with them since you are a customer.

Careful here. What you gain by losing some drag, but be lost with instability at those speeds. Be safe.

He's in a straight line here. No worries.

You are probably right but lack of downforce can negatively affect cars in a straight line. Think of Top Fuel dragsters and funny cars. May not make a difference much either way here. Do we have an aerodynamicist on the board?

Thanks guys and valid points. I plan to do a few exploratory runs working up to a full speed run. At those speeds, a tire issue would probably be a higher risk. Would love to be able to figure this out. Also noticed tonight if I hold down the spoiler button for about 5 seconds at speeds above 74 MPH. the spoiler WILL go down, but then it pops back up about 5 seconds later.

Thanks
