I was at the driving academy and most all the GTRs were magno. They take a lot of abuse. The fronts were all covered in PPF. The rest of the cars body was excellent. No paint damage. I checked it all over because I was in fact curious about the paint quality. The paint can take a lot of abuse and still look great. Obviously no paint is bullet proof, but I beg to differ that its a "softer" paint. MB would not of used the Magno paints to get beat on day after day for their fleet of GTRs, E63s, GT63s, Cla45s, G wagons, SL63s, etc....
Gloss paint gets lost in a sea of gloss cars. If you like a bit of a stand out, exclusive look, Magno is amazing.
Xpel Stealth is pretty much the king of the matte material and quality history coming from my installer who installs all and has for many many years...

Somewhat unrelated but has anyone used a car cover on Magno paint without PPF? Any issues?
It's 2 weeks until I can get my GTC PPF'ed and I currently have it covered. It's the Magno Selenite Grey.

Something to keep in mind if you decide to only partially cover a matte finish paint in Xpel Stealth:
Even though Xpel Stealth seems to maintain the ‘colouration’ of the MB matte paints better than the Suntek matte film, even the Xpel Stealth does in fact change the appearance slightly. That’s not an issue if the whole car is covered, but it ‘might’ be an issue if just the front clip is covered.
Just FYI.

Since this thread got revived...
Thinking about XPEL Stealth (or Suntek equivalent) on a Magnetite Black S63 Coupe... anyone have matte/satin film on a Magnetite car ?

I'll try to remember this thread when I take my wrap off, and show you the damage that normal street driving has done to the magno paint on my car. Even my fenders are pock marked from how easily it chips. The GTRs fenders don't roll under the car like the GTS, so it would be significantly less apparent on them, if that's the only part of the car that's normally subjected to debris that's not ppfd.
Yes I agree....no cars paint is bullet proof from all the rocks, sand debris on public roads. Track roads can be just as bad as there is gravel in the drive off edges. I guess my comment was meant to say that Magno chips no faster than regular gloss paint, but gloss paint can be remedied easier with touch up paint/ gloss and buff. Magno cant be "buffed". PPF is your best friend for protection and ease of cleaning. Wrapping very close to the edge with a stretched kit is absolutely fine unless you want to take the car apart and edge wrap. I think the hood may be good for this.

Thanks guys. Going to go look at the 2017 C300 Coupe with Edition 1 on Wednesday to buy. Driving 4 hours to get it. Any special areas I should be aware of when inspecting and test driving? Expel will be 1st and then Rims will be a later change along with tinted windows if it pans out.

Only use a car cover indoors and if you really need it. Personally, I would just let the car sit and get dusty. Car covers can wreck havoc on your paint as they rub against the unprotected surface.

Do any Magno owners have experience with XPEL Stealth? If so, what's your verdict on quality, performance and does it affect / change the look of the original paint job at all?
As much as I love the appearance of MAGNO paint jobs, I swore I would never buy a vehicle with one so as not to have to deal with the maintenance of the paint, and would simply wrap if I wanted a matte look - that said, I jumped at the chance to buy a GT C Edition 50, and am now looking to protect the paint as best as I can, and the few recommendations I have received have all been XPEL Stealth.
Thanks

Finding a great installer is a major challenge. I have yet to find any great ones in Toronto - I have tried 3 and none were great. My only advice is to specific an installer specifically and check his work. What happens at these shops is that their installers have varying degrees of experience, and you don’t know who you’ll get. They usually get great results when they open, because they use talented installers. Then as they grow, they hire less experienced installers and care less about quality.

I dropped my Solarbeam off today. Looked over samples between Xpel Stealth and Prestige Satin Guard and I like the latter much more. This is going to take about 2 weeks to complete and the company doing it is Premier Protective Films. I will be traveling for work at around the time they finish my car, so I will be storing it with them until I return in Feb. So excited! Here is what they did to a F8 with Satin Guard.
