Software updates gtr

everything seems to be down to software update wondering if anyone else has ever had a hold on a gtr to do a software update and how long it takes and why this take so long? When we live in an age of Internet

Mmmmmm there is no more hold on the GTR. The freeze was released a while ago. Are you saying you have a car sitting at a dealership and they won't release it due to a software update?

The months long hold on releasing the cars was due to EPA certification issues. Then right before release of the majority of the cars, (some had already been released), there was another hold to refit new components for the active aerodynamics spoiler motor. Perhaps the later is the issue with your car since it’s held at the port?

Keep in mind this is in Canada so it could be different but here we have s63 and gtr’s They’re all sitting waiting.
So unless Mercedes is lying basically it is not a component this is a software and according to them the software has to be sent from Germany and then they have to update all the vehicles and then release them to the dealers.

Mine, which is a GTR is sitting in Halifax waiting for this update they have to do all the cars one by one

My vehicle has been sitting there since November 1

And yes regarding the EPA issue I’m fully aware of that was passed and that was the first issue that’s why I’ve been waiting for so long. I thought I would have my car first week of November when epa was cleared and now this new software thing

Firmware is routinely and easily upgraded at dealerships. I’ve always been told to leave the car for at least half a day just in case there’s an issue with the initial upload, but normally updates should only take a couple of hours at most. I would ask your New Car Manager to speak to the area rep about what the hold up is; I know you’re frustrated. I would be to.

Frustration would be a massive understatement it’s beyond that level now I have pretty much given up.

This order arrived in Halifax November 1 my dealership is amazing the main problem here is The corporate level they don’t give any information and basically all they’re saying now is it some kind of software update and they have to mail the USB stick and then upgrade all the cars and this info comes directly from Mercedes at office
. There actually telling me that they ship a USB stick or something from Germany and then have to upgrade all the cars I’m sure there are some cars in dealers but this batch now is all waiting for some kind of software upgrade .

it’s truly the most frustrating experience that I’ve ever had to deal with and actually does not make me want to purchase new cars anymore .
I’ve been dealing with Mercedes for years and this has totally tainted my vision of the brand

Doesn't take a month to send a package from Germany to Canada.

FWIW: All MB software updates are done via a highly secured cloud server operation. There are several levels of security including the dealer number, technician ID And VIN number that are required before the secured cloud server will allow access to the software updates.

Now that ithe issue is well documented and out in the fueld, In the case of the spoiler issue the software update takes about 10 minutes and R&R of the replacement parts about 30 minutes. (I’ve seen it done on my GTR) 👍

I think with month end and a quarter and year end coming up there will be a concerted effort to get all sold GTR’s in customer hands as soon as possible for financial reasons.
Regards

Jerry

Thanks for the information I guess that explains why my car has been sitting in Halifax at the Autoport for the last month with absolutely no explanation as to what the update is for.

Extremely poor handling of logistics and even though it’s a great car it’s not worth all the stress they put their customers through its extremely disorganized from a logistics and customer support point compared to other car manufacturers, And the worst part is it’s not even the car dealers fault and the dealers have to put up with this poor manufacturing support absolutely terrible experience from Mercedes

There is no excuse for this kind of treatment when purchasing such of high-value item absolutely no excuse whatsoever

Agreed!!

Customer communication is not currently a MB Corporate strong suit.

The members here know far more about what’s going on than the dealer does. Corporate doesn’t communicate with anyone and there is no sense of urgency in these matters.
