The GT engine appears t be able to be tuned to at least 577 HP. Is what you do simply tuning the boost? And is that what the factory does, or does AMG also change out the pistons and other engine parts in the C, S and R variants?

You are correct the GT does have more potential. (Similar concept with other standard vs ‘S’ models). When tuning the GT or most other Factory Force Induced vehicle the majority of the gains come from adjustments made within the tuning area to the toque limiters (ultimately boost), fuel, ignition, etc. The idea is that this is all done within the factory safety parameters like the factory would.
